“GOP gets bad news on ObamaCare repeal”

 BY ALEXANDER BOLTON, THE HILL – 02/24/15

“The Senate’s chief referee has dealt a significant setback to conservatives who want to send an ObamaCare repeal bill to the president’s desk this year.

“GOP sources say Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough has raised red flags in response to queries about whether it’s possible to use a special budgetary procedure to repeal the controversial law “root and branch,” as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has said…” – SEE FULL STORY* BELOW;

House Obamacare repeal bill meets Senate rules for simple majority vote

The American Health Care Act, which the House narrowly passed last month, meets the rules that allow the Senate to pass it with only 51 votes, according to the Senate parliamentarian.

The Senate Budget Committee said Tuesday that the legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare complies with the rules for reconciliation set by the Senate parliamentarian.

Item #4: BUT WAIT AGAIN!!!!!!!! Don’t count on those “51 votes” from Republicans! We ask our readers,’how long before John McCain becomes the next “Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords”?

By JUSTIN CARISSIMO CBS NEWS June 11, 2017, 8:26 PM

“Report: Sen. McCain says U.S. leadership was better under Obama”

“Sen. John McCain of Arizona has said that U.S. leadership was better under President Barack Obama than his successor, President Trump, The Guardianreported Sunday.

“The Republican leader, who has never shied away from criticizing Mr. Trump, was responding to a question asking if America’s stance on the global stage was better during the Obama administration.

“As far as American leadership is concerned, yes,” McCain responded.

And thus we ask our readers,’do you remember “Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords”?

“On May 24, 2001, Jeffords left the Republican Party, with which he had always been affiliated, and announced his new status as an “independent”. Jeffords discussed this decision during his announcement that he was leaving the Republican Party. “I will make this change and will caucus with the Democrats…” (Wikipedia);

(Good old Jim had just been reelected by Republican voters the previous November . He became an “independent…yet he “caucused with the Democrats”. What’s the difference?)

But he was still a really great guy…per Iowa’s own Chuck Grassley:

From the Burlington VT Free Press, 2014: (http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/politics/2014/09/11/senate-honors-jim-jeffords/15465467/)

The late Sen. James M. Jeffords, I-Vt., delayed his historic break with the Republican Party in 2001 long enough to allow a tax-cut bill supported by the GOP — but that Jeffords opposed — to pass the Senate, a former colleague said this week.

“Sen. Jeffords came to me and told me that out of respect for me and the way I had worked with him on the bill, he would not officially change parties until after the tax bill was passed,” Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said this week during a speech on the Senate floor.

“This little-known episode demonstrates what an honorable man and true friend Jim Jeffords was,” Grassley continued.

AIN’T POLITICS GREAT?
