FRIGHTENING!? VICTOR DAVIS HANSON MAKES YOUR HUMBLE ‘NEIGHBORHOOD PESSIMIST’ SOUND DOWNRIGHT BULLISH ON AMERICA’S FUTURE
Can a Divided America Survive?
History has not been very kind to countries that enter a state of multicultural chaos.

Peggy Noonan profundity:
“We have to lower the political temperature.”
Noonan probably thinks she’s scored another brilliant observation. Many others have shared such “eloquence”.
It is very popular in the past couple of days for all the smart people to call for “lowering the political temperature.” Equally popular and seen to be a very smart position is the concession that “both sides are guilty”!
This may well be my favorite quote from Peggy’s latest column: “Earlier Stephen Colbert, well known as a good man, a gentleman, said of the president, in a rant:
“The only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c— holster.”
I CAN ONLY WONDER WHERE ON THIS PLANET IS STEPHEN COLBERT “KNOWN” AS A “GOOD MAN, A GENTLEMAN…”??? AND, PEGGY, HAVE YOU HEARD THAT ” KATHY GRIFFIN IS “WELL-KNOWN” AS A ‘KIND AND CHASTE YOUNG MAIDEN, CHOCK FULL OF GOODWILL’???)
But, are they?
For every instance a liberal hack or apologist cites as the same behavior of the right as no different than the left, one can provide a dozen far worse vile and violent words and actions by Democratic party leadership, liberal pundits, and leftist organizations and “entertainment figures”.
Can presidential candidate Donald Trump’s chiding of the antics of a leftist’s attempt to physically disrupt a campaign appearance to “rough him up” be comparable to the radical Black Lives Matter movement’s chanting “what do we want? Dead cops! When do we want them? Now!” ?
Can a rodeo clown’s modest attempt at good natured mocking of President Obama be seen as no different than a late night “comic’s” characterizing President Trump performing a sex act on another world leader?
And what on earth can match another leftist “comedienne” simulating the beheading of an American president?
Clarence McKee writing in NewsMax seems to summarize the Democratic party left’s “eagerness” to “lower the political temperature”…
Silence Is Democrats’ Complicity in Accepting Griffin
“The ISIS-like photo of comedienne Kathy Griffin holding a bloody decapitated head of President Donald Trump exemplifies how far the Democrats and liberal left have sunk to destroy Trump and his agenda for working class Americans by almost any means necessary.
“I wonder what the families of American journalist James Foley thought of Griffin making fun and light of decapitations? Did anyone in the major media think to ask the Foley family what they thought of such a depiction? Do they even care?
“Yes, CNN fired Griffin and a few of those on the left have condemned her. But, have you noticed the silence from Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and DNC Chair Tom Perez or anyone in the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) who themselves would have gone apoplectic if such a depiction were done of Barack Obama.
“Wonder why? It can be argued that it is because most of them agree with and have no problem with the depiction…”

Excerpts from the Victor Davis Hanson’s column:
The United States is currently the world’s oldest democracy. But America is no more immune from collapse than were some of history’s most stable and impressive consensual governments.
Fifth-century Athens, Republican Rome, Renaissance Florence and Venice, and many of the elected governments of early 20th-century Western European states eventually destroyed themselves, went bankrupt, or were overrun by invaders.
The United States is dividing as rarely before. Half the country, mostly liberal America, is concentrated in 146 of the nation’s more than 3,000 counties — in an area that collectively represents less than 10 percent of the U.S. land mass. The other half, the conservative Red states of the interior of America, is geographically, culturally, economically, politically, and socially at odds with Blue-state America, which resides mostly on the two coasts.
The two Americas watch different news. They read very different books, listen to different music, and watch different television shows. Increasingly, they now live lives according to two widely different traditions. . . .
History is not very kind to multicultural chaos — as opposed to a multiracial society united by a single national culture. The fates of Rwanda, Iraq, and the former Yugoslavia should remind us of our present disastrous trajectory. Either the United States will return to a shared single language and allegiance to a common and singular culture, or it will eventually descend into clannish violence. . . .
The national debt has almost doubled over the last eight years and at nearly $20 trillion is unsustainable. Entitlement spending rose even as new taxes increased. The have-nots claim the haves make far too much money; the haves retort that they pay most of the income taxes while nearly half the country pays nothing. All Americans need to take a deep breath, step back, and rein in their anger — and find more ways to connect rather than divide themselves. Most Americans agree that the present levels of borrowing and spending cannot continue.
But many believe that the tough medicine to cure the disease of chronic annual deficits and mounting debt is unacceptable.
America’s infrastructure and military are vastly underfunded, even though some voters want more subsidies for themselves and apparently want others to pay for them. America’s once-preeminent colleges and universities are fatally compromised. . . .
Things are bad now. But our own history suggests that if we are not careful, they can get even worse.
