DONE WITH THE DONALD ?
It now seems likely that President Trump will fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
If, indeed, that happens, it is doubtful that I can any longer support Mr. Trump. Let’s say, I will have “lost confidence” in him.
Here are a few thoughts we have on this subject:
1- Jeff Sessions, in our opinion, is the best Attorney General we’ve had in decades; he does what he says he’ll do; he has faithfully adhered to the promises made to the American people by President Trump and his administration.
2- Some say that Trump is ‘big on loyalty’; AG Sessions was one of the president’s earliest and strongest supporters, and, we believe, helped shape Mr. Trump’s views on some key issues that resonated with voters and significantly contributed to Trump’s victory. “Loyalty”, Mr. President, is a two way street.
3- Trumps seems all bent out of shape toward Sessions for two principal reasons : Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the “Russia thing”, and his “failure” to go after Hillary and her “alleged” misdeeds as Sec. of State, and as a presidential candidate.
First of all, if Trump is angry over the “Witch Hunt” which ensued following Session’s recusal, why isn’t he mad at Rod Rosenstein? No one has actively sought to do more damage to Trump than Rosenstein by his immediate naming of Mueller (of all people) as Special Counsel. Sessions did not have any role in that fiasco. Finally, regarding Rosenstein, why was this Obama holdover even appointed by Trump to serve as Deputy Attorney General, effectively the DOJ’s 2nd in command?
Also, as far as Sessions’ failure to go after Clinton, it was Trump himself who made the “magnanimous'” gesture upon assuming office to let the Hillary misconduct go. When he was asked if he intended to follow through on his campaign rhetoric to “lock Hillary up”, he said the Clintons were “good people” and he would not pursue any investigation of Hillary or her people!
4- Trump has made a number of bonehead plays since he took office. All of which, most of his voters and supporters, us included, overlooked, remaining confident in his overall competence and that he would indeed deliver on the promises he made which got him elected.
But, for many of us, I believe, if he fires Sessions that will be a ‘bridge way too far’!
If he does that, a) Rod Rosenstein almost certainly becomes Acting AG until a successor is confirmed, and b) “Is confirmed”!!! What is the likelihood that an AG nominee who is in any way willing and able to carry out the promises made to the American people could be confirmed by this Senate?
Maybe Trump can persuade Loretta Lynch to come back. Her confirmation would be easily done!
DLH
When Trump can’t get his nominee for USAID head confirmed what are the odds of speedy confirmation of an AG nominee…especially considering that the Dems will have Omama-ite, Rod Rosenstein, running the DOJ???? (And by the way, what is Tillerson doing on this matter?)
State Department Lawyers Removing
References to ISIS ‘Genocide’ Against
Christians, Other Religious Minorities
Washington Free Beacon, by Susan Crabtree
The State Department´s top lawyers are systematically removing the word “genocide” to describe the Islamic State´s mass slaughter of Christians, Yazidis, and other ethnic minorities in Iraq and Syria from speeches before they are delivered and other official documents, according to human rights activists and attorneys familiar with the policies. Additionally, Democratic senators are delaying confirmation of Mark Green, Trump´s pick to head the U.S. Agency for International Development who has broad bipartisan support. These efforts guarantee that Obama-era policies that worked to exclude Iraq´s Christian and other minority religious populations from key U.S. aid programs remain in place, the
I note Ted Cruz has been very vocal in supporting Sessions regardless of Sessions somewhat surprising support for Trump in the 2016 primary
