“Sessions finally getting around to chasing down the Clinton crime family”!?
Not so fast! Not only is it unlikely that a special counsel will be named. It is probable (in our typically pessimistic view) that the “investigation” AG Sessions announced will turn up “nothing of significance” regarding any wrongdoing by the Clintons or any of the key figures involved from the Obama administration.
As I understand it, Mr. Sessions told the House committee that a “fact-based investigation” would be undertaken to determine if a special counsel was warranted.
Seems the problem with that is that the “fact-based investigation” Sessions refers to would likely be conducted under the direction of the very people who played a part in the matters a special counsel would be charged to look into…the very definition of conflict of interest!
To believe that the likes of Rod Rosenstein and Andrew McCabe would be involved in an inquiry to determine if they themselves should be investigated, and would find necessity for a special counsel to do so, is so ludicrous, it is surprising that AG Sessions was able to keep a straight face as he addressed the committee members.
Finally, I did not hear any of the ‘distinguished’ committee members ask how fact-based was the “investigation” which resulted in Mr. Rosenstein’s decision to appoint Robert Mueller (another who would be involved in the matters another special counsel would be expected to investigate). DLH
Jim Jordan (R and Freedom Caucus member) was pretty aggressive with Sessions, but not that I heard to your specific point.
