Iowa’s First Congressional District Congressman Rod Blum issued the following message today regarding what political commentator Laura Ingraham has aptly referred to as the Congressional Shush Fund.:
Ending the DC Slush Fund
With multiple stories of DC politicians involved in harassment seemingly coming out each week, the need to drain the swamp has never been more clear to me. I was shocked to hear, as I know many of you were, that there is a “slush fund” to the tune of millions of dollars being used to pay for settlements with taxpayer money involving misconduct by members of Congress or their staff.
Hearing that two current members of Congress, who remain unknown to the public, were part of these settlements is just unacceptable.
We in Congress were always meant to be public servants, but this behavior is endemic to the out of control attitude and lack of decency that has gone on for far too long in our nation’s capital. Taxpayers need to know who these individuals are, and Congress should immediately end the use of taxpayer dollars to settle harassment cases.
Again, taxpayers deserve transparency and real action on this issue, not words and empty gestures. Congress must listen to the people’s demands for immediate reform.

Blum: secret settlements over harassment a ‘symptom of the swamp’
We anticipate Iowa’s entire federal delegation will vote to end the slush fund in the current definitely politically correct environment. We will see if it takes some other form.
