From Douglas Johnson, National Right to Life Committee Legislative Department:
Senator Chuck Grassley holds a town meeting in each of Iowa’s 99 counties, each year (and he has been doing this for 38 years!). During the first week in July, Senator Grassley will hold such events in Webster County (Fort Dodge) and Fayette County (West Union) — see details below.
One of the most important, and little-reported, successes of the Trump Administration has been the nomination of record numbers of federal judges. However, while the President nominates, the U.S. Senate holds the power of confirmation. For the past 18 months, Senate Democrats have collectively engaged in systematic obstruction, doing their best to slow the pace of Senate confirmation of judges. Nevertheless, judicial nominees are being confirmed at a record pace — and this is due in large part to the tireless work of Senator Grassley, who is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Since President Trump took office, Senator Grassley has already shepherded 42 federal judges through to successful confirmation — including Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, and 21 judges to the federal courts of appeals (which are just one level under the U.S. Supreme Court) — about one-eighth of all the appeals court seats. This is the fastest pace of circuit court confirmations for any president in recent history.
Besides the 39 judges already confirmed, an additional 43 judicial nominees have been approved by Senator Grassley’s committee — many of them by 11-to-10 party-line votes — and are awaiting Senate floor action, with dozens more to come.
Senator Grassley has achieved all of this despite the Republicans currently holding only a one-seat majority on the Judiciary Committee, and only a one-seat majority in the full U.S. Senate!
Pro-life laws passed by state legislatures and Congress have often been struck down by federal judges who are determined to impose their personal policy preferences. For his key role in confirming conservative judges, Senator Grassley comes under constant attacks from activists on the Left, including those associated with Planned Parenthood. Activists of the Left may turn out at the town meetings that Senator Grassley will hold this week at the two locations below. So, please, go to one of these events to thank Senator Grassley for all that he has done and is doing to reform the liberal, activist federal judiciary.
