Is that McRaven or . . . M-Craven

  • So a James Brennan fanboy sucks up to big media liberals
  • Compartmentalized heroism

Today, we have some comment about an “old” story…probably forgotten by now by most folks. After all, the story that “shook the world” for all of 3 minutes or so, “exploded” almost FOUR DAYS ago! Since then, the world has been shaken by ‘breaking news’ that,

1) Trump signed off on the Khassoghi assassination in Turkey at the request of Saudi Arabia’s ‘ MBS’ (well, maybe not “signed off on” but certainly did not call for severing America’s relations with one of the few allies of our country in the Middle East helping confront Iran, as Trump’s critics demand);

2) Ivanka (Trump) Kushner deleted 33,000 top-secret emails from her private server (oh wait!, that was someone else);

3) Special Counsel Bob Mueller now has the answers to his questions of Trump and, indictments and impeachment to ensue (Wait! That last part hasn’t yet happened);

4) The “Caravan” Trump has highly criticized as an “existential threat to America” has turned out to be a Li’l Wayne Concert Tour of Central America and Mexico (That story, it appears, is somewhat inaccurate);

5) Some Obama-appointed ‘Justice of the Peace’ (well, maybe it was a ‘judge’, but…) has taken over formerly presidential responsibility for Immigration Law and Foreign Policy; and, finally,

6) ‘Trump Calls 9th Circuit Court a “disgrace!” Oh, wait! That’s not ‘news’…except to Chief Justice John Roberts.

The “4 day old story” we refer to is the big flap over Trump’s lashing out at ‘one of the great war heroes of all time’, Admiral William, ‘the bin Laden Killer’, McRaven!

OK. We’ll go out on a limb here. Admiral William McCraven is a genuine hero, we are told, and ‘everyone says so’.

He “oversaw” the mission to take out Osama bin Laden.

McRaven, however in our view, is also a bitter partisan…a “fan” of Barack Obama and . . .  G W Bush (a “republican”, and, he of “that’s some weird shit” to describe Trump’s Inauguration speech):

“I am a fan of President Obama and President George W. Bush, both of whom I worked for. I admire all Presidents, regardless of their political party, who uphold the dignity of the office and who use that office to bring the Nation together in challenging times.”

So much for “all” presidents. With that qualifier in context, THE Admiral intended to exclude President Trump from his admiration. That same qualifier though (the using the Office to “bring the Nation together in challenging times”) should certainly also exclude Obama from McRaven’s “fan and admire” list ).

– In addition, the retired “hero” is also a fan of former CIA Director, James Brennan:

Earlier this year when President Trump revoked former CIA Director (and Communist party voter) John Brennan’s security clearance, McRaven wrote in the Washington Post that “I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.” (OK with me.)

So now Trump is universally castigated for his dastardly ‘attack’ on THE Admiral and is characterized as ‘anti-Armed Forces’, lacking dignity, unworthy of any respect from our nation’s military leaders, blah, blah, and blah.

From the entire media and political establishment to the “fastest gun in Florida to criticize Trump”, Marco Rubio, to the “man who shot bin Laden’, Navy Seal Robert J. O’Neill, Trump is bashed for his reply to Fox’s Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday”.

Mr. Wallace, neither a Trump admirer nor a fan of anything about this administration, asked the president about a remark McRaven made in 2017 that the president’s attacks on the media were “the greatest threat to democracy” he (McRaven) has seen in his lifetime”.

“OK, he’s a Hilary Clinton backer and an Obama-backer, and frankly … wouldn’t it have been nice if we got Osama bin Laden a lot sooner than that? Wouldn’t it have been nice? You know, living — think of this — living in Pakistan, beautifully in Pakistan,” said Trump.

Well, I guess we were all surprised that Donald Trump would react strongly to a charge like that…most of all, Chris Wallace (I’m betting Wallace’s office on Monday was inundated with bouquets and dinner invites from every liberal news and cable outlet here and in most parts of “LeftWorld”…”Atta boy, Chris, you got’im with that one!”, probably wrote Jim Acosta.)

Was Trump “imprudent” with his retort? Well, yeah, especially when there wasn’t anyone above the age of 6 who thought he would stay silent when someone suggests that he’s the “greatest threat to democracy”.  Just as that same segment of the population knows the characterization isn’t true and that Chris Wallace was just seeking his colleagues’ approval and an award at the next Correspondent’s Dinner for “superb baiting”!

As to Admiral McRaven: From our own research, we’ll concede that he deserves recognition for his military service. Much of what is said of his career as a true American hero appears to be very accurate.

He is not, however, exceptional as a career military person of considerable achievement to also be outspokenly politically biased. (And, in our opinion, equally politically naive.)

As example, we would cite Retired General Wesley Clark. 34 year careerist and recipient of many and various military decorations, ‘knighthoods”, etc. An impressive academic record and Supreme NATO Commander Europe (’97-’00) but committed liberal and, in our judgement, one of the most naive and misguided would-be politicians ever on the American scene.

Another example of accomplished military people who would be disastrous as presidents or dangerously inept in any major civilian government post, is former Army Chief of Staff, Gen. George Casey… in the immediate aftermath of the Ft. Hood massacre, this inspirational thought:

Army chief of staff Gen. George Casey said this weekend that he is concerned that the deadly shooting at Ft. Hood last week could “cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers.”

“I’ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that,” Gen. Casey told CNN on Sunday, stating that “as great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.”

Finally, as to President Trump, his alleged ‘disrespect for our military heroes’ and as the ‘greatest threat to democracy’, we maintain that, while George W. Bush was a sincere and strong advocate for our military, President Trump has actually delivered far more on behalf of the active and retired and former members of our Armed Forces than any president in recent memory!

How many genuine current and former members of the greatest fighting force on Earth would, even though serving in an elective political office and under constant media scrutiny, allow themselves to be characterized as ‘the greatest threat to democracy” without forcefully responding?

The real heroes I know personally wouldn’t…and woe be to the person who made such an accusation to their face!           DLH

One Response to Is that McRaven or . . . M-Craven

  1. Hubert Pries says:

    DLH: Excellent response and research to the cowardly attacks by perfumed princes from both the military and media. As for O’Neill, he’s an example of a trigger pullers that need to stay within their level of competence. I have met him and was not impressed by his intelligence, his ability for self promotion, yes, his intelligence, no.
