Michael Goodwin authored a piece appearing yesterday in many prominent publications and news sites.
Like many conservatives, Goodwin is displaying a great deal of satisfaction over the debunking of the third rate “news” site, Buzzfeed’s sensational story that President Trump suborned perjury and was thus certain to very soon to be gone from the Oval Office.
Goodwin greets the news as so many of us did with great anticipation that, in the aftermath of this fiasco, the long playing off-Broadway show, “Mueller Saves Democrats” will soon be closing.
His confidence flows from his admiration for William Barr whom Goodwin sees as a virtual certainty to be confirmed by the Senate as Attorney General and will definitely be the one to close down the Mueller debacle.
Something Conservatives, many Republicans, and we, believe, a very large segment of the American people very much look forward to!
In our most humble perspective, however, we suggest they hold off on the champagne! The show’s not over!
In addition to failing to share Goodwin’s optimism that William Barr is the “conqueror” we’ve prayed for, we are skeptical about the carefully worded announcement by the Special Counsel’s office that the Buzzfeed story is “inaccurate”.
What part of the story…that President Trump directed his ‘attorney’, Michael Cohen to lie to Congress, an impeachable felony, is “inaccurate”?
Is it “inaccurate” because Cohen did not admit it, but that the allegation was ‘corroborated’ by some ‘documents’ Mueller’s people obtained from Cohen’s files and have or fished through for months to find something, anything that could be portrayed as sufficient to ‘nail’ the president?
Is it “inaccurate” in some other detail, perhaps even a quite insignificant one…but just enough to claim “inaccuracy” until Mueller can dramatically “confirm” the essence of the story in a highly dramatic fashion? And be carried off stage on the shoulders of left-wing conspiracy!
We don’t think that Mueller would like to be ‘scooped’ by an outfit like “Buzzfeed” on the ‘biggest victory in prosecutorial history’!
But that’s just our opinion. DLH
Goodwin writes…
“The BuzzFeed News report that special counsel Robert Mueller had corroborating evidence that Trump had instructed his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress … was the bombshell development Dems and 90 percent of the media have dreamed of — and finally it was here. Oh, Happy Days!”
Suborning perjury! Impeachment! Maybe prison for a terrible person…and a worse president!
Goodwin continues…
“Except it wasn’t true. Mueller said so in an unprecedented debunking that slammed the brakes on the celebration.
“Mueller’s statement, though brief, was specific and thorough enough to rip out the guts of the report. It said: “BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”
“The site’s editor and others called the statement inadequate, but that was wishful thinking.”
Later in the piece, Goodwin concludes…
“…Mueller has operated without restraint or guidance, with abuses and conflicts of interest on his team swept aside in what too often looks like a determination to knock off a duly elected president.
William Barr
“…I believe, (William Barr) will be the antidote to this destructive situation. He is, as I wrote last week, “a respected adult” who can tame the waters in the Justice Department and get to the bottom of the anti-Trump cabal that has robbed the FBI of its reputation for fair play.
And he will not be a pushover for anyone. Barr has a first-rate legal mind and a mature self-confidence born of experience, both of which he demonstrated at his confirmation hearings.
