Paul Ryan to guest lecture at Notre Dame; no surprise there with President Jenkins still in charge
“As an Irish Catholic from the Midwest, the University of Notre Dame has always held a special place in my heart,” (Paul) Ryan said in a university statement. “It is an honor to be part of a University where Catholic principles, robust debates, academic freedoms and diverse viewpoints are allowed to flourish. As much as I hope to impart as a lecturer, I know that I will learn a tremendous amount from Notre Dame’s remarkable students as we discuss the big challenges before our nation and collaborate on how best to address them.””
COULD THERE BE A MORE AMENABLE COLLEGE TOWN THAN SOUTH BEND TO WELCOME A PSEUDO-CONSERVATIVE/REPUBLICAN LIKE PAUL RYAN?
“As much as I hope to impart as a lecturer, I know that I will learn a tremendous amount from Notre Dame’s remarkable students…”
Paul, some things Notre Dame’s ‘remarkable students’ won’t be able to teach you about is glib hypocrisy, nauseating disloyalty, and utter disdain for the people who believed you’re campaign promises.
You gotta love that Father/President Jenkins; he and Ryan deserve each other. But then, President Jenkins has an accommodating nature when it comes to politics and church doctrine.
Other Great moments in Irish/Jenkins History:
– “When asked about his tenure at Notre Dame he reveals a high note to be President Obama’s visit to campus in 2009. Then in the same interview he refuses to say if President Trump will receive the traditional invitation to speak at commencement, before adding “if you’re betting, I’d advise you to bet against it.” (You do recall President Obama’s eager support for late term abortion and opposition to “Born Alive” legislation? Fr. Jenkins apparently thought those positions worthy of an honorary degree from the “Catholic” institution he heads.
– The University of Notre Dame has established a “GLBTQ” student organization.
Notre Dame’s president, Father John Jenkins, on Dec. 5 accepted the Office of Student Affairs’ recommendation to “expand and enhance the support and services for students who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning (GLBTQ).” The recommendation includes the creation of a university-recognized student organization.
A March 6 article in the Notre Dame newspaper, The Observer, discussed how homosexual students at the school “hook up” and meet “potential romantic partners” in the absence of an officially recognized student group.
So, let’s see if I get this. Without the GLGBTQ organization, gay students will run around the campus searching out other gay students for potential hookups. Now they won’t have to search them out…they can meet all the gay students at GLGBTQ gatherings fostered by the university.
More “Jenkins Wisdom” on the subject:
“Father Jenkins said that Catholic teaching is “about the role of sexuality, about intimacy, about human relations, about responsibility to the community, about relationships to the Church.”
“To put this in a ‘Well, you can do this; you can’t do that’ [category] is to distort the issue,” the university president said.”
– and here is more, remember this one:
– Here is Reverend Jenkins’ version of the ‘Cuomo faith doctrine’:
In justifying the birth control decision (to provide contraception in student health program) , Jenkins said that Catholic tradition requires respect for the “conscientious decisions of members of our community…”. Seems to us a play on the Cuomo ‘principle’: ‘The university’s religious views should not be imposed on its students’.
So, what happens when a rowdy band of activist students calls for the Rev. Jenkins to stop imposing the church’s views on abortion on them? (Veritaspac, 3/9/18)

After reading some excerpts from former Pope Benedict XVI, I’m totally confused.
When he stepped down, I figured (with pure speculation) that a diagnosis of dementia, ALS or some other horrible malady had befallen him.
After reading excerpts from his recent letter, it appears that his reasoning powers far exceed those of the current Pontiff, “Crazy Frank.” Why he abdicated is a total mystery to me now.
As for Rev. Jenkins at ND, he’s just a typical college president wearing a funny shirt.
