- It makes people nervous and irritates the horses
- Senator, your horses are hard charges, why aren’t you when it comes to going after DEMOCRATS
- Walking back comments or the option of revising and extending your remarks is not something the press affords you, so why not be a little more thoughtful before responding to loaded questions
– “Asked if she thought Trump’s comments were specifically racist, Ernst acknowledged, “Yeah, I do.”
– “She reiterated that view when asked on another occasion by a CNN reporter if she found Trump’s comments racist.” (No doubt the CNN reporter was delighted; a little ‘something extra’ in the paycheck for finding a Republican to pile on Trump?)
Does Iowa Now Have a “JONI Romney”?
Maybe Republicans, conservatives, libertarians should all be concerned about exactly who (or what) they sent, with their votes, to Washington.
Is Joni Ernst an ‘anti-Trumper’? A “never-Trumper”? A “moderate”/”liberal”/”closet-Democrat”? Or is she just a somewhat ill-informed, opportunistic politician?
We hope none of these things.
Senator Ernst, by several appearances, appears at times to be NOT totally committed to the full agenda of the Republican Party and the voters who support it! There may be serious question about to what extent she even supports the President and leader of her party.
When Ernst meets with a CNN reporter and is asked if she “found Trump’s comments ‘racist” and replies, “Yeah, I do”, she delivers a strong message and heightens these concerns:
.- it is apparent that either ‘Joni’ did not thoughtfully read and correctly interpret Trump’s comments or, she is blithely unaware of his personal history and of the economic and social progress for minorities and “people of color” he has fostered in his 21/2 years as the nation’s Chief Executive. Instead she seems to have rather blindly accepted the predictable interpretation that the liberal, biased media, and Democrats, usually attach to any Trump comment…”RACIST !”, they scream.
– And, more importantly, Ernst apparently chose to give CNN their desired headline … “GOP Senate leadership member critical of Trump ‘s ‘racist’ comments!” She did not, however, take the opportunity to give her assessment of the anti-semitic, anti-America sentiments, vulgar remarks and ugly behavior of the radical Democrat congressional ‘freshpersons’ who call themselves the “squad”!
Maybe, alarmingly, Joni’s just not too quick on her feet when confronted by a CNN operative? One almost hopes that was the case.
– Ms. Ernst also seems to be committed to seeking approval from ‘independent’ and some liberal voters. She has appeared rather eager to join the “Me too” chorus. When she was working with Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand to craft a bill to remove sexual assault cases from the military chain of command she used her personal ‘history’.
Ernst revealed that during her 20 years service in the National Guard, she was sexually ‘harassed’.
According to Ernst, in an interview with TIME, she endured “comments, passes, things like that”…that she was “able to say ‘stop!’ and ‘it simply stopped’. (Perhaps a strategy built on such a response to a problem of such dimensions would be simpler and more effective than legislation which would take responsibility for handling serious cases of sexual assault and actual molestation occurring in their commands out of the hands of military commanders…seldom a good idea unless one is convinced that military commanders (mostly ‘male’) are hopelessly and irrevocably ‘sexist’!, insensitive, cruel, and irresponsible. Hopefully, former “Lt. Colonel” Ernst doesn’t hold that view.)
While her very tragic personal experience which ended in January in divorce after 26 years of marriage may have had an understandably hurtful and lasting effect on Ms. Ernst, (the public record reveals that Ernst was the victim of “verbal and mental abuse and even a ‘physical assault” throughout much of her marriage), we must hope that it has not distorted a perspective on critical issues as she executes the duties of a US Senator.
In fairness, it must be noted that Joni Ernst has not been a major liability in the GOP caucus during her first term in the US Senate. She has not, however, exhibited the kind of commitment that is likely to enable her Party to retain control of the presidency and the Senate and regain control of the House in 2020. It is critical to the health and future of America that she and all of her colleagues in the Republican congressional conference be on board with returning fire as they face a determined, aggressive, and destructive 2020 election campaign.!

We note this was not the Senator’s first time down the path of feeling obligated to separate herself from Trump when it is an obvious game the press is playing. Rather than revising and extending remarks, how about not being sucked into that game?
Despite her criticism of Trump, Joni Ernst ‘still on board’ with president
