Why is the Republican establishment lying about what Donald Trump said?
Perhaps you heard Donald Trump had some tough comments about illegal immigration last week. Here is a link to an article that quotes what he said. Here is a link to an article that quotes what Mitt Romney says he said. However clumsy, Trump did not insult or characterize Mexican-Americans as Romney accused. Trump referred to the criminal element of Mexico not Mexican-Americans which are by definition American citizens, and not illegal. Trumps was not the most carefully worded political statement, but neither is lying about what he said.
Trump is voicing the concerns of a large cross-section of the American people including blue-collar workers black, white and Hispanic. The border must be secured — that it is not is a clear and present danger to the fiscal and cultural welfare of the country and its security. Immigration has to be controlled so as to insure assimilation.
That the Republican establishment is concerned that Trump is hurting Republican prospects is laughable. As Rush Limbaugh said yesterday – they have been doing that famously themselves. The fecklessness of Republican leadership on so many key challenges is pathetic. On that score, illegal immigration — failing to stand up to Obama’s executive orders — is at the top of the list.
Today Limbaugh made very compelling remarks to the effect that Trump’s current cache is a result of the Republican establishment’s failures and unbelievability. The program had a very compelling dialogue on these points and much insight from a caller who raised the populist blue-collar substance of Trump’s appeal. The transcript is available here.
Allapundit, writing at Hot Air is very critical of Trump in this article. That’s OK, he is not immune from criticism. We commend that article to readers as well as part of the rough and tumble in the decision-making process. We ask you though, to read some of the comments to the article therein, which indicate that a lot of conservatives are not buying the knock on Trump. R Mall and DLH
