Trump should declassify Russiagate documents

Of course our illustrious Senior Editor dlh would be the last to note that he said he trusted Gina Haspel no more than he trusted Chris Wray. We are certainly not happy with John Durham and William Barr is disappointing.

The latter damaging our trust is almost ‘unthinkable’ because Barr seems to be so smart, honorable, experienced,  and fair.

Davis: CIA Director Gina Haspel Is Blocking Declassification Of Remaining Russigate Documents

SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 By The Federalist Staff

CIA Director Gina Haspel is personally blocking the declassification of documents detailing corruption at the highest levels of the intelligence community during the 2016 election, according to The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis.

While new information about wrongdoing at the FBI has recently been declassified, including recent revelations about Hillary Clinton campaign’s collusion with Russia, Davis reported on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday that Haspel herself is standing in the way of the declassification of other relevant documents.

“I’m told that it is Gina Haspel personally who is blocking continued declassification of these documents that will show the American people the truth of what actually happened,” Davis said.

Notably, Haspel was previously the London CIA station chief under former CIA director John Brennan during the 2016 election. “Recall it was London where Christopher Steele was doing all this work,” Davis said, noting Haspel was the “main link” between Washington and London at the time. Haspel was hand-picked by former CIA director John Brennan to run the CIA’s operations in London, where she served as the spy agency’s bureau chief from 2014 through early 2017.

When asked what top bureaucrats might be hiding in these classified documents, and what it would it would take to declassify them, Davis called on President Donald Trump to declassify everything so Americans can see the evidence for themselves.

“So many of the people blocking these documents are likely implicated by them. You have these career bureaucrats whose careers may be destroyed by the facts within them,” he said.

“I think at this point, we need the president, Donald Trump, to step in and say, ‘No more obstruction. No more blocking.’ We need transparency and the American people need to hear the truth.”

Maniacal Attacks on Judge Barrett

Left agitators are a group of sociopaths

We knew that we wanted to adopt internationally—the wait for domestic adoption was just very, very long—and there were so many children in need,” she said. “Vivian is amazing. She was 14 months old when she came home and she couldn’t make any sounds at that point. Nor could she pull herself up to a standing position, and she was wearing size zero- to 3-month clothing because she was so malnourished.”

Judge Barrett said that she and her husband, Jesse, were told at the time that Vivian may never speak. “She’d been so sick [that] she hadn’t had a lot of practice making sounds and she hadn’t been spoken to a lot.” Today, all that has changed. “Vivian is incredibly athletic now, and trust me, the speech has not been a problem,” she joked. “I was looking at her the other day at the gym and just thinking what a miracle it is how strong she’s become.”

Jason Riley, Wall Street Journal, has written a column that needed to be written. The Left doesn’t like Amy Coney Barrett

“Most reasonable people would agree that the Barretts’ decision to adopt one sickly orphan and then another following the worst natural disaster in Haiti’s history isn’t merely admirable but heroic. Yet Judge Barrett has been attacked by luminaries of the political left who are outraged that the adoptions were transracial. “

More from the article:

The Left’s Unhealthy Interest in Amy Coney Barrett’s Adopted Kids

Social science finds no evidence that being raised by white parents is harmful to black children.

After news broke in 2010 that an earthquake in Haiti had claimed upward of 250,000 lives and displaced 1.5 million survivors, most Americans took note of the tragedy, thought to themselves how awful it was, and then resumed their daily lives. Others went a little further, generously donating money and goods to relief organizations like the Red Cross. And then there were people like Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s pick to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.

In the aftermath of the earthquake, the Barrett family adopted a toddler named John Peter from a Haitian orphanage. It was their second time adopting from Haiti. Several years earlier, they had taken in an orphaned girl named Vivian. During an interview last year at the Notre Dame Club of Washington, D.C., Judge Barrett, who sits on the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, discussed her adopted children.

“We knew that we wanted to adopt internationally—the wait for domestic adoption was just very, very long—and there were so many children in need,” she said.

Most reasonable people would agree that the Barretts’ decision to adopt one sickly orphan and then another following the worst natural disaster in Haiti’s history isn’t merely admirable but heroic. Yet Judge Barrett has been attacked by luminaries of the political left who are outraged that the adoptions were transracial. On Saturday, Ibram X. Kendi, a Boston University professor and author of the best-selling book “How to Be an Antiracist,” questioned the judge’s motives. “Some White colonizers ‘adopted’ Black children,” he wrote on Twitter. “They ‘civilized’ these ‘savage’ children in the ‘superior’ ways of White people, while using them as props in their lifelong pictures of denial, while cutting the biological parents of these children out of the picture of humanity.”

Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a New York University historian and CNN political commentator, wonders whether Vivian and John Peter weren’t adopted so much as kidnapped. “Many authoritarians seized children of color for adoption by White Christians,” she tweeted. “Pinochet’s regime did this with indigenous kids and Nazis took Aryan looking Poles for German families. Trump takes migrant kids for adoption by Evangelicals.”

It would be a mistake to laugh this off as knee-jerk anti-Trumpism. The sort of racial hype and paranoia coming from the progressive left long predates the current administration and will continue whether or not Mr. Trump is re-elected next month. The National Association of Black Social Workers first announced its opposition to transracial adoption in 1972. In a statement, the group took “a vehement stand against the placements of black children in white homes for any reason” and called such arrangements not only “unnatural” but “unnecessary” and harmful to the physical and psychological development of black children.

But what do the empirical data show? In their 2018 book, “Saving International Adoption,” Mark Montgomery and Irene Powell assess the vast literature on interracial adoptions and report that it reveals no evidence of harm to black children. Comparing black adoptees in white families with those in black families, there is no statistical difference between the groups in terms of self-esteem, self-concept and family integration, and “only a small, if any, effect on objective outcomes such as school performance and behavioral problems,” they write. The “overwhelming conclusion of studies of transracial adoption is that it is not bad for children. This greatly weakens the case of the opponents of transracial and transnational adoption on the grounds that it harms children.”

The reality is that there are more black children in need of adoption, here and abroad, than there are black families who have expressed a willingness to take them in. Liberals who advocate for apartheid adoption policies are putting an aesthetic preference ahead of the needs of homeless kids. The question isn’t whether Vivian and John Peter’s situation is ideal. It’s whether they are better off wallowing in a Haitian orphanage or living with parents in the U.S. who want to care for them and happen to be of a different race.

THEIR ‘DOGMA’ LIVES LOUDLY WITHIN THEM

THEIR ‘DOGMA’ LIVES LOUDLY WITHIN THEM

Diane Feinstein Could Not Have Said It More Eloquently; Only the Focus of her Observation Was Wrong…She only Meant “Catholicism” as Practiced by Non-Democrats in Washington

The Democratic Senator detected that “flaw” in Judge Amy Coney Barrett, currently Trump’s nominee for the seat on the Supreme Court formerly held by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg;  Feinstein’s anti-religion accusation toward Barrett was 3 years ago in the hearing for Barrett’s nomination to the appellate court

The Democrat Dogma, however,  lives loudly in the hearts of many elected members of their political party. To be a “successful” Democrat on the national stage one must embrace the Dogma…first and foremost, forget that “anti-abortion” stance, regarded, properly, as a ‘hallmark tenet” of the Roman Catholic faith.

While the official religion of the Democratic Party is Leftist Politics and its ‘dogma’ is devotion to personal power, for some members being a Catholic is sometimes useful, but must be worn like a cardigan sweater…easy to take off when their ‘dogma’ must be ‘loudly ‘expressed.

Nancy and Durbin and the Cuomos and Tim Kaine, The Sleepy One; also Cory Booker?? Maria Cantwell?? , and many others make their Catholicism known, as convenient for a segment of their electorate.

But happily for Diane Feinstein, the only “dogma’ that “lives loudly” for all of them, it seems, is the “Democrat Dogma”.

(None of that “Popery” or “Papism”, like JFK was accused of, for them, unless it’s the Marxist- influenced “Popery’ of Mario Bergoglio (AKA Pope Francis).         dlh

“Debate”? Disappointment perhaps but also some method to the madness

With the benefit of letting the matter gel a bit, to assemble a variety of respected takes on the evening we range from disappointment to seeing method or  silver lining in the Trump performance.  Photo via HP’s FB post.  First dlh’s initial analysis —

Of the many various analyses, from right and left, this from PowerLine’s Scott Johnson best approximates my own analysis of Tuesday night’s “debate”.

No minds were changed. If you didn’t have a mind…which seems to be what “independents” inadvertently say of themselves, maybe you were moved a bit by Trump’s unsatisfying behavior, moreso than by Biden’s inability or unwillingness to express his own thoughts…if he has any. On many things, it was Biden who lied or refused to answer:

Green New Deal? Biden doesn’t’t support it. But he tells the Left, AOC, and Bernie that he does, and the “plans” he admits to having sound very close to the NGD.

“Pack the Supreme Court”? Can’t seem to get an answer from Joe…but the Left seems satisfied that he’d go along with that, gladly.

And, so on.   dlh

POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 BY SCOTT JOHNSON IN 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
A LONG NIGHT
To Paul’s assessment of last night’s proceedings in the adjacent post, I would only add this. If President Trump entered the debate trailing in most battleground states, as I believe he did, his performance served him poorly. I can’t believe he won over a single persuadable voter.

Trump’s performance must also have cemented the negative perceptions held by voters who have turned against him. He carried his do not go gentle into that good night mode to wild excess. Perhaps it was President Trump who needed pharmaceutical assistance to dial it back. As it happened, I thought Trump interrupted Biden on a few occasions when a Biden brain freeze was in progress.

Was Trump following a plan? RCP’s Philip Wegmann reports that he was. My impression was that Trump couldn’t have prepared for the debate. He can’t have been coached or advised to go at it in the fashion he did. His instincts have usually served him well in arguing his case, but I am afraid they showed their limitations last night.

Joe Biden has no policy or program to recommend his candidacy. On the contrary, he has to conceal or misrepresent them before general audiences. Were his insults of Trump calculated? Trump is a racist. Trump is a clown. Oh, excuse me. The insults belied Biden’s theme promising an alleged return to civility or normalcy after Trump.

Trump might have turned these insults to his advantage. His failure to do so was another missed opportunity.

Biden was still pushing the Russia hoax and asserting that Antifa is just a beautiful idea. We are apparently to be spared Biden’s views on the Democrats’ plans to pack the Supreme Court and end the filibuster. Unbelievable.

Chris Wallace was a miserable moderator. The planted assumptions and rank ignorance of his questions deserve separate comment. However, Wallace was not the source of the president’s difficulties last night.

The choice between Trump and Biden is momentous. It shouldn’t be difficult or close. Bill Voegeli ably elucidates the stakes in his Claremont Review of Books essay “The weak leading the woke.

I gave up any inclination to predict election outcomes in 2016. I will only say that Trump needed to help himself last night and didn’t. The debate was therefore a bitter disappointment.

Different takes from folks at The Federalist and Dan Bongino — Our interpretive summary — Trump went there intending to shore up his base not to convince suburban housewives of anything — and he knew Chris Wallace was not going to ask a totality of evenhanded questions – so he was not going to let either carry the day or prevent his responses. The silver lining is that Trump forced Biden to undercut enthusiasm for his campaign from his base “Green New Deal”, “HE is the Democrat Party”, and more.  Read the following articles (links) . Could he have done these thing better, no doubt but Trump is Trump.

Calm down, the debate was fine

Ted Cruz Calls Chris Wallace’s Moderating ‘Abysmal,’ ‘Whiny,’ And ‘Petulant’

Did Biden Really Forsake The Left? Not By A Long Shot

This latter commentary in spite of the theme points out the reasons the energizing Biden Base IS undercut, we find them substantial and don’t think a wink and a nod is good enough for them.

Also Bongino who also said similar to the preceding, and others raised the specter of Biden cheating —  see Bongino and here.

Sensationalizing legal minimization of  taxes, as if they don’t engage in it

Last Night’s Candidate Debate

I could only watch 15 minutes.  It was a noble gesture to protect the TV from having things thrown at it, mostly to hit Chris Wallace but Biden as well.   Today’s Liberty Daily has many links to commentaries about the event. Trump won.

Pope Ignoramous should not pontificate on economics or constitutional jurisprudence

If I could write as good as Beaton, I’d write this piece. He sees both of this people exactly as I do.      dlh

Glenn K. Beaton writing at his blog the Aspen Beat

Is Judge Barrett too Catholic for Pope Francis?

First, there’s economics.  I wouldn’t call Pope Francis the “Commie Pope,” as some do, but it’s a fact that his admirers have included Cuban communist dictator Raul Castro and self-described American socialist Bernie Sanders who implied that the Pope is a socialist.

Understand that this former Argentine priest named Jorge Bergoglio was shaped by Argentinian economics and politics. In the early 1900’s, Argentina was wealthier on a per capita basis than Canada or Australia – it was about the tenth wealthiest country in the world.

But political instability and recurrent bouts of socialism and oppressive regulations choked off the economy. Argentina has now deteriorated to the status of an undeveloped country. Inflation runs rampant, politics are unstable and corruption is everywhere.

This is what shaped Bergoglio’s views. The form of capitalism he saw was something we would describe as, at best, “cronyism.”

As Pope, he frequently impugns capitalism, as if the cronyism he witnessed in Argentina is the same thing. He suggests that capitalism is responsible for world hunger. He thinks socialism is a better model.

Most educated people know that the reality of socialism is quite different than this Pope’s idealization of it. It is a fact, not just an opinion, that capitalism makes the economic pie bigger for everyone. Over the last 100 years, capitalism has reduced the rate of extreme poverty in the world from 60% to 20%.

Meanwhile, socialism shrinks the pie and encourages class warfare over what little remains. The winners of the socialist exercise in pie-shrinking and class-warring are the ruling elites. The poor get ground into dust.

Two popes ago was Pope John Paul II, who saw this first-hand as he grew up in communist Poland. A smart, worldly and compassionate man, he helped rid his native country of the Soviet menace to the point that the Soviets tried unsuccessfully to assassinate him through Bulgarian proxies. Finally free of socialism, Poland is now a prosperous and capitalist member of the European Union.

Like naïve high school students, Pope Francis seems stuck on the idea of socialism with no historical awareness of its repeated failure and no self-awareness of his hypocrisy in advocating it.

He embraces socialism for others, not himself. He lives as the absolute monarch of the country known as the Vatican in an ornate palace filled with magnificent art collections where visitors beg to kiss his $650,000 ring. He presides over an empire to which millions of people pledge their fealty and give their money, even as he calls money “the devil’s dung.”

In exchange for their fealty and their devil dung, the devout mostly get damned. The Pope criticizes them for trying to make money even as he expects them to gift to his empire some of it, and mocks them for “breeding like rabbits” even as he clings to prohibitions on contraception.

Seems this Pope abhors hard work and frequent sex. Is it because the joy people feel in such pursuits distracts from his command over them?

Contrast Judge Amy Coney Barrett. As a respected federal appellate judge, she’s skeptical about overreaching governmental regulations that squelch economic opportunity.

She thinks the job of judges is to judge by applying the law to the case in front of them. It’s the job of legislators accountable to the people, not judges or popes, to make those laws.

She’s doubtful that the Constitution contains a right to an abortion, for the simple but compelling reason that it’s never mentioned. If people want narrow or broad or unlimited rights to abort a fetus, they should ask their legislators to enact legislation saying so, not ask judges to invent such legislation.

She thinks people accused of crime should be entitled to due process rather than being presumed guilty by administrative kangaroo courts, even if they’re men and the crime of which they’re accused entails sex. She thinks immunity for cops should not extend to falsifying evidence.

In her personal life, Barrett and her husband have been, as I suppose the Pope would say, breeding like rabbits. She has five biological children, one of whom has Downs syndrome, plus two adopted Haitian children. The Left condemns her “colonialism” in adopting the Haitians, as if those children are hankering Haiti. The Left is also bugged that she didn’t, and still hasn’t, aborted any of the seven.

I’m guessing the Pope is annoyed that the couple slowed in shoveling devil dung his way for long enough to enjoy the God-given pleasure of conceiving, birthing and raising children.

As a judge, Barrett earns a government salary that is a fraction of the millions she could earn at big law firms after having graduated number one in her Notre Dame Law School class. She wears a wedding ring, but it’s not valued at $650,000 and she does not invite people to beg to kiss it. She lives in an ordinary house, not a palace, and is a mom to her school-age children. I don’t know this for a fact, but I doubt the house contains any Michelangelo’s.

She’s definitely a Catholic, and doesn’t just say that. (I’m not Catholic, though I have a lot of respect for that faith and most others that are sincerely felt.)

Here’s the question: Is she too Catholic for Pope Francis?

So much is upside down in today’s world. Maybe Francis would fit better as a Supreme Court justice where he could infallibly invent leftish laws without accountability to the people, and Barrett would fit better as a pope where she could lead Catholics by example.

Ah, but that won’t work. This pope who preaches equality does not allow women to be priests.

(Our take: Things look bleak…but, that’s only because they really are!)

This is a column not for sissies…Hollywood’s “you can’t stand the truth” come ‘home to roost:     dlh

Victor Davis Hanson
The Progressive Medusa        (excerpt)

The Hard Left believes its mission is so critical, so morally superior, that all means can be justified to achieve its moral ends.

There was once a tradition of Democratic liberalism. But that wing of the Democratic Party no longer exists and died sometime in the 1990s. Old-style liberalism has been absorbed by Progressivism at best and unapologetic socialism at worst—in a journey on the supposedly predetermined arc of history that bends toward 1984.

The new-old leftist aim is not to operate within either the existing parameters of the Constitution as written or the customs and traditions of America—a 150-year-long nine-justice Supreme Court, the Electoral College, a 50-state nation, a Senate filibuster, two senators per state, and a secure border. All are obstructions to the drive for power.

Given its redistributionist creed, socialism cannot afford to be patent and honest. If socialism were transparent, it never would gain majority support. Joe Biden cannot talk about the Electoral College or court packing, unequivocally condemn the violence in our urban centers, discuss the Green New Deal, name his likely Supreme Court appointments, be honest about his plans for fracking, or explain his views on the borders, because he is now owned lock, stock and barrel by the hard Left whose agendas were rejected even in his own Democratic primaries.

Maher is a real clAss act

Bill Maher is in a class of his own…one that no human being would want to be in.

Haters gotta hate

Whether one agrees or not with Judge Amy Coney Barrett and her judicial views, only a very sick, silly fool would call her a “fucking nut” (spelling it out for readers because Maher didn’t ‘spell’ it on his show).

Maybe some V’pac readers can, but I cannot recall, having seen, read, or heard  any talk radio host, late night comic, newspaper pundit, of any  political persuasion, refer to a prominent liberal, particularly female, as a “fucking nut”!

The promotional flack for Maher’s show goes like this:
“REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER..began.. its 18th season SEPTEMBER 25 …Maher offers his “unique perspective” on contemporary issues…”   “The series is available on HBO …”Politico has hailed Maher as “a pugnacious debater and a “healthy”(?!) corrective to the claptrap of cable news…”  “Variety noted, “There may not be a more eclectic guest list on all of television.”

Politico? To put it “pugnaciously”, their staff seems to be comprised almost entirely of a bunch of ‘f—–g pseudo-journalists’.

And, HBO? It can be proud that they pay this foul-mouthed, demented little creep (Maher) to offer his “unique, pugnacious perspective”  to be on their network!    dlh

Bill Maher Attacks Trump’s SCOTUS Pick, Amy Coney Barrett…Calls Her a F—–g Nut

Leftist Bill Maher launched an attack against President Donald Trump’s reported Supreme Court nominee on Saturday, calling the mother of seven and devout Catholic a “f***ing nut.”

“But apparently the pick is going to be this omy…a-omy…Amy Comey [sic],” Maher said as he started to laugh, “well, we’ll be saying this name a lot I’m sure because she’s a f***ing nut.”

“Religion, I was right about that one, too,” Maher continued. “Amy, I’m sorry but, Amy Comey [sic] Barrett — Catholic, really Catholic, I mean really, really Catholic, like speaking in tongues. Like she doesn’t believe in condoms, which [is] what she has in common with Trump because he doesn’t either — I remember that from Stormy Daniels.”

In the clip that was posted online, Maher appeared to repeatedly mispronounce her middle name as “Comey” instead of Coney. The segment on Maher’s show comes as numerous news reports surfaced late on Friday indicating that Barrett had been selected to be Trump’s replacement for late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away last week.

“No Durham Report” No breaking news here

  • “Huge News”? Not To Us !
  • Is been predictable for months, obvious for weeks
  • Greatest political crime in 60 years, arguably in American history
  • Effective resolution possible, but denied

We’ve suggested this so often, we’ve even bored ourselves with the repetition.

……………………………

‘Barr and Durham’, we are sad to finally acknowledge… are not a crack investigation team…or ‘prosecutors extraordinaire’!

They’re a Vaudeville Act…or should be. Webster should get going immediately to rewrite his definitions of “impeccable”, and “accomplished”, and “above reproach”.

Instead of their current ‘definitions’, these terms should be defined by what they are: “Terms used to manipulate and mislead gullible, honest people who believe that when applied to Washington politicians and bureaucrats, they are meant to imply that these are ‘people of great honor and character’.

To review, again, very briefly:

William Barr burst on the DC scene as a former Attorney General, of impeccable reputation and accomplishment. A “no-nonsense” guy who would always ‘do the right thing’. In his earliest appearances before congress and in the media, Mr. Barr expressed his shock, surprise, concern about what he had seen the federal law enforcement and national security apparatus under the Obama regime do to undermine a legally elected presidency, disenfranchise nearly half of all adult American citizens of their voting rights , and attempt to destroy the integrity of the American “Experiment”.

A grateful nation was assured that this honest, smart man would have the courage and the will to get to the bottom of this sordid event and see that true justice was done. And Mr. Barr assured us all that that was correct.

To underscore that promise,, the AG named John Durham as the ‘lead’ guy in that effort. Another “above reproach” individual, with unassailable character and enormous investigative skills. And unbelievable courage also!

Praise the Lord! America, its values, its freedoms, its promise…in good hands!

UNTIL THIS….  (via RedState)

HUGE NEWS! NO DURHAM REPORT, INDICTMENTS COMING, PER SOURCES

This is not the kind of big news you want to get on an otherwise slow Sunday morning, but here it is. Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo is reporting this morning that there will be no Durham interim report or indictments coming before the election. By the wording, she may actually be saying there’s no report coming at all.
If true, this is a travesty of justice of the highest order given what has transpired the last five years.

This isn’t someone leaking to the Times to cover their backside. Bartiromo is typically solid and is not anti-Trump in the least.

Whether or not you believe this news will probably depend on the level of cynicism you normally operate with in regards to this topic. I’ve been far more skeptical of the Durham investigation than even I’d like to admit at times. While I want people to be brought to justice, it’s the kind of thing that never seems to happen when the targets are of a Democrat nature (yeah, I know Comey is a “Republican”).

There are other reasons to think this is true though. With only five weeks before the election, was the DOJ really going to throw an “election interference” bomb into the mix by indicting high-level anti-Trump figures right before the vote? That’s always been a fear of mine for a while, i.e. that those involved in this investigation and Lindsey Graham’s Senate investigation would successfully run out the clock and try to wait until the transition period. It appears both those things have happened, as we are now so close to the election that no one that lacks Trump’s will and demeanor, which is necessary to do what’s right in this case, is going to want to be seen as influencing the election. Trump wouldn’t care, nor should he, but Bill Barr might. Lindsey Graham would.

All of this should have ended months ago. The Durham investigation has now had nearly as much time as the Mueller investigation had. Graham’s Senate committee quite literally had years to get their interviews and report done. Now, even if they move before the election, they will be playing right into Democrat hands.

This is a strategic blunder, but it’s also a moral blunder. The American people need to know they have a justice system that treats all people fairly, regardless of political persuasion. Right now, that trust has been shattered, and for very good reason. The DOJ had a chance to pick up the pieces and make this right. Instead, they’ve delayed and stonewalled just like the FBI has. Is this a move being made to protect people because they think Trump will lose? I don’t know what the motivation is, but it’s unacceptable.

Of course, again, maybe this isn’t true? But it would be par for the course. We’ll see where this leads, but I’m not hopeful at this point.
