Usual QC Times Distortion To Serve Its Agenda

Here’s a story from the QC Times, Tues., May 1:

Top EPA official resigns over “crucify” comment (5 column headline, top story on “Nation/World section)

This is how the QCT’s version of the AP story ran with reference to comments by Al Armendariz, the Obama administration’s top environmental official in the oil-rich South Central Region, who resigned Monday over those remarks he made in a speech in 2010:

” (The Romans would) find the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them. And so you make examples out of people who are in this case not complying with the law. Find people who are not complying with the law and you hit them as hard as you can and make examples of them.”

Now here is how the story was reported elsewhere immediately following the exposure of his comments. The sentences identified in all caps (original not on caps) highlight elements omitted in the Times’ story. Nitpicking?  Veritas readers can make the call:

Armendariz made headlines Wednesday following a Senate floor speech by Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe in which the senator highlighted a speech the Obama-appointed official made in 2010 IN WHICH HE SPOKE OF A “CRUCIFY THEM” ENFORCEMENT POLICY FOR OIL AND GAS PRODUCERS.

“I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I said,” Armendariz said. “It was kind of like how the Romans used to conquer little villages in the Mediterranean.”

“They’d go into a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them,” Armendariz continued. AND THEN YOU KNOW THAT TOWN WAS REALLY EASY TO MANAGE FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS. And so you make examples out of people who are in this case not compliant with the law.”

Of course in Mr. Armendariz’s region, oil and gas producers did not have to be non compliant for him to seek their “crucifixion”. He went after the producers for fracking with damaging lawsuits which later found no link between groundwater contamination and fracking operations.Whether it made it easier to “manage” his “town” for a few years as a result is not known.
