In isolation, a small thing , admittedly, but it does provide an additional insight into the “objectivity” Scott Reeder of QC’s “newspaper of record”, the Moline Dispatch, brings to his coverage of politics and government. I think it reflects, as well, the institutional obtuseness of the newspaper.
From Reeder’s column Sunday: “Apparently, Mitt Romney was a jerk in high school and pinned a fellow student to the ground and gave him a haircut.
“Barack Obama, on the other hand,used illegal drugs when he was young.”
Here’s a tip, Scott. To be consistent in characterizing folks, shouldn’t this read: “Barack Obama on the other hand was a ‘stoner’ in high school, regularly (by his own account) using illegal drugs.”
And that reduction of Romney’s and Obama’s record is from a self-identified conservative at the newspaper!
In this article Reeder not only characterizes himself as a conservative but Cheri Bustos as “more moderate” than he, not “more liberal” you understand . . . “more moderate.” Now we can be sure there is no spin intended in that locution describing Scott’s old colleague and frequent barbeque buddy .
At the same time Reeder enlightened readers with that ridiculous reduction about 17th District congressional candidate Bustos, she had already been endorsed in the Democratic primary by EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood and none other than Dick “The Turban” Durbin. Does Reeder have any idea what it takes to “earn” those endorsements? Being “moderate” is not one of them. Shouldn’t readers be concerned that Reeder will go out of his way to cover for friend and colleague Bustos? DLH with RDM

I fooled around on the Dispatch website trying to find what you were trying to link and it was so shitty I couldn’t even find it! The Dispatch website makes the QC Times wesbsite look like the Taj Mahal!
Anyway I am sure he never even talked about how Obama bullied and shoved a girl when he was in school (in Obama’s own book). The guy probaly doesn’t even know Obama eats dogs (again in Obama’s own book).
