Bad enough to have the Des Moines Register endorse a Republican after forty years. Bad enough to have the QC Times walk away from him.
That says a lot if you are familiar with the editorial positions and content of those two newspapers. Throw in the Sioux City Journal and the Cedar Rapids Gazette endorsing your opponent and it makes for a very bad day for the Obama campaign in Iowa, an electoral college battleground state.
We are astounded to find that we could have written large sections of the criticisms of Obama’s job performance on display in even the Register (aka Redstar) and the QC Times (aka Davenport Morning Democrat). But far be it for our Resident Crank to let this good news make him all warm and fuzzy. He brings us down to the real world of liberal group think with this commentary:
There is much sadness today on the left side of the Quad Cities today; it is a day of mourning for those who only strive for the “common good” through “progressive action” …the mighty Barry O has struck out with the QC Times.
Comments on the QCT WebSite include many threats to cancel subscriptions.
I must admit…it feels so good to be wrong some times. To pick up the Times today and see their endorsement for President, Mitt Romney, I was surprised and pleased.
One must give the editorial board of the QCT credit. They have gone against their biggest constituency in the QC…the Democratic left. It did take unexpected courage to make this endorsement and I believe it was made with sadness as much as conviction.
The Times endorsement reflects deep disappointment in President Obama’s performance over the past four years. I believe, however, that their disappointment with Mr. Obama is not with the ideology he unabashedly puts forth every single day, nor even the venom he reflexively spews toward anyone who disagrees with him, nor even his many and abject failures. I believe that this endorsement as it is presented suggests that the QC Times’ disenchantment with Mr. Obama is based on his ineffectiveness, not on the ideology he seeks to impose on America nor even on the president’s personal shortcomings.
It is Obama’s failure to “win the hearts and minds” of the American people in support of his socialist agenda which so disappoints the good folks at the Times, I believe.
One point I want to call particular attention to is the Times’ cheap shot on Sarah Palin in this “endorsement”. Though very tired and without any justifiable basis, the editorial writer justified, in part, its endorsement of Obama in 2008 on John McCain’s selection of Palin for Vice President. It cited her “inexperience”…compared to whom…Obama’s vast experience and impeccable qualifications?
One need only look at the pathetic buffoon Mr. Obama picked for his running mate.
But…take heart, QCA leftists. The Times will give you Loebsack!

I honestly didn’t believe it at first when somebody texted me about it this morning. But but lo and behold, the QC Times endorsed Romney!
The online comments on the QC Times endorsement piece have to be the most hilarious this ever. Already 95 of them just today. My stomach seriously hurts from laughing fo hard! Funniest one-
“My wife cancelled delivery of the print edition some time ago, detecting a shift to the right wing and general silliness. (I cannot tell the difference but she is a lot brighter than I am). Turns out she was right once again.”
The Times shifted to the right wing some time ago!? Lib heads exploding every where.
