Possible Vote Affecting Second Amendment Rights Thursday

Contact especially Senator Grassley today!

hacksawedunpistol2webcr_2_4_13According to various conservative entities the U.S. Senate could have a vote on panicked ineffective big government gun control legislation Thursday.  The initial bill taken up may be one  offered by anti-gun Senator Charles Schumer. Anytime the Democrat controlled Senate takes up anything to do with the Second Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms is on the chopping block.

According to the National Rifle Association (NRA) Institute for Legislative Action:*

Senators are scheduled to vote on a so-called “universal background check” bill being pushed by lifelong anti-gun zealot, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y).  Schumer’s bill–S. 374, the “Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013”– would criminalize virtually all private firearm sales, even temporary transfers, making you a criminal if you simply transfer a firearm to an aunt, uncle, cousin or lifelong friend without the federal government’s approval.  Even worse, President Barack Obama’s Justice Department says that Schumer’s bill will only be effective if it’s coupled with mandatory gun registration.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) gun and magazine ban legislation (S. 150) will not be a part of the Senate’s base gun control bill, but the Senate previously announced that Feinstein will be allowed to offer her legislation as an amendment.

Feinstein’s legislation,  . . . proposes to ban nearly every semi-automatic shotgun and detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifle, several other categories of firearms, and any ammunition magazine holding 11 or more rounds, . . .”

At least 13 Senators  are vowing to stand up and filibuster any erosion of  Second Amendment rights.  They are: Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Marco Rubio (R-FL), James Inhofe (R-OK), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Richard Burr (R-NC), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Mike Enzi (R-WY), James Risch (R-ID), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Dan Coats (R-IN) and Pat Roberts (R-KS).  Note that Senator Grassley is not among them.    Senators Paul, Lee and Cruz are leading the effort.

Republican Senator John McCain is denigrating the effort —  According to GOPUSA.com:*

Sitting next to a laughing Chuck Schumer on CBS’ Face The Nation, John McCain didn’t mince words… He and other Senate RINOs oppose the proposed Paul-Lee-Cruz-Rubio filibuster of any legislation that undermines the Second Amendment.

Almost turning red in the face, McCain mocked Senators Paul, Lee, Cruz and Rubio and said: “I would not only NOT encourage it [a filibuster of Obama’s assault on gun rights], I don’t understand it. What are they afraid of?”

We’ll answer that question for you, Senator McCain: The American people don’t trust “Maverick” RINOs who lock hands with Barack Obama and attempt to chip away at our Constitutional rights . . .

McCain continued his tirade on Face The Nation. After asking “what are they afraid of,” he continued, “Why would a United States Senator want to block debate?”

We’ll answer that one too for Mr. McCain, because he and others are obviously confused on that score as well.

A filibuster is NOT a measure to END DEBATE… a filibuster is a means of EXTENDING DEBATE. Voting to end a filibuster (otherwise known as Cloture) is a vote to end debate and proceed to a vote.

So, Senator McCain… Here’s your question thrown right back at you… Why are YOU trying to end debate?

We encourage readers to contact US Senators from Iowa and Illinois to do their duty and  protect Second Amendment rights.  There are enough gun laws already.  Point out that while gun ownership is up, murder rates are down.

To Senator Grassley communicate to him that Harry Reid cannot be trusted to treat Republican Second Amendment supporters fairly and that not supporting the filibuster efforts of Senators Cruz, Paul and Lee ends debate and puts Second Amendment rights at risk.  Contact information is as follows:

Phone is  best at this point, followed by fax or e-mail messages. Contacting their local offices is suitable. Put “oppose any additional gun control legislation” in the subject lines.  Send this link to this article to friends and family encouraging them to read the information we have supplied and contact their U.S. Senator.  We also have numerous Second Amendment links in our link section at right.

One Response to Possible Vote Affecting Second Amendment Rights Thursday

  1. Roy Munson says:

Can you believe how phony Manchin and Toomey are? Big “pro gun guys.”

“in part, to a bipartisan deal between Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) that would expand background checks on all commercial gun sales and end the so-called gun show loophole.”

Remember Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) won for some reason in 2010 because he was super pro-gun and pulled out his rifle and shot a target in an ad?
