The Tide Keeps Rolling *

A variety of subject matter is addressed in these links.  All worthwhile to ponder, even if depressing. By the way the reference to the tide relates to an article posted in these pages one year ago.

Item 1:

I wonder if our President might want to chip in on this story:  Two in custody in bus driver attack

This is about the attack on a bus driver in Kansas City by two “yutes”, having no money for the fare, or at least refusing to pay when they boarded the bus. They were also ticked off at the driver because the bus was running late, they claimed. (The full story is available here)

Now I am sure the entire community is grateful that the bus driver did not have a gun. Had he it’s possible that these two “children” could have been hurt, perhaps even killed. Two more young black men falling victim to America’s still racist society. The driver could have tragically misunderstood that although he was beaten and stabbed several times, these lads, who one could say resemble somewhat the sons our president never had, did not intend to kill him but only administer some “whoop ass”, as a young lady, Rachel, recently noted was little more than a way to say “howdy” in the ‘hood.

Had the worst happened, however, and these two young black men been killed by a wannabe vigilante bus driver, would the courts have done the right thing? Would the bus driver been acquitted by a jury failing to consider that these young men could have been our nation’s first black president just 35 years ago?

Would a jury set that bus driver free as though he had no culpability? Would they not acknowledge that this entire tragic event could have been avoided if the bus driver had been on time?

As our nation’s Attorney General has said, we need to have a conversation! No. Wait! The bus driver was also black. We don’t need no conversation.

Item 2

Like most everything about the Obama administration, this stinks incredibly badly!

A series of requests for Marine Col. George Bristol’s testimony from Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, both Republicans, had fallen on deaf ears until Friday. The Pentagon had claimed that since Bristol had retired, it ‘cannot compel’ him to tell congressional panels what he knows about the Benghazi attack.

Chaffetz said on July 9 that the Defense Department was ‘not willing to pass along any sort of information’ related to Bristol’s whereabouts.

Now Air Force Maj. Robert Firman has confirmed to MailOnline that due to an ‘administrative error,’ Bristol was mistakenly classified as a retired officer despite his current active-duty status.

So, the Marines didn’t know whether he was retired or not and whether he was or not, they didn’t know where the hell he was!!!!

What do you prefer to believe… The USMC is a totally incompetent, clownish outfit or the leadership of the Defense Department has been corrupted beyond belief like every otherdepartment and agency throughout the Executive branch of our government?

(Incidentally, Why “AIR FORCE MAJOR Robert Firman doing the “confirmation? Why not the Pentagon or the USMC? Jus’ askin’)

Item 3

It’s just too bad that Marco Rubio doesn’t take the Daily Mail. Maybe we should send him a subscription. He could find out what’s in the bill he so actively touted:

Report: Senate immigration bill includes nearly $300 million in slush funds for immigrants’ rights groups, in language drafted by the former policy chief for one such organization

•    The National Council of La Raza is likely to benefit from grant money set aside in an immigration bill drafted by its former policy director
•    Legislation passed in the Senate would exclude three-time DUI offenders from a path to citizenship, but two-time drunk drivers would be acceptable
•    Passport forgers would no longer be prosecuted for making a single fake travel document, with the bar being set at three
•    Document counterfeiters whose materials are used to obtain passports would only be jailed if they contributed to at least 10 phony passports

Item 4

Regarding Detroit’s  bid for bankruptcy protection, the judge made the following statement denying the petition.

“It’s cheating, sir, and it’s cheating good people who work,” the judge told assistant Attorney General Brian Devlin on Friday, adding that she will ensure that President Barack Obama gets a copy of her order. “It’s also not honoring the president, who took [Detroit’s auto companies] out of bankruptcy.” The right of the President not to be dishonored shall not be infringed.

Since they can’t declare bankruptcy because it would “dishonor our president”, perhaps the city of Detroit should be condemned as any unsafe structure is and get people out of there for their safety. Send them to Washington where President Obama can look after them

Item 5

Which leads us to the question which is worse — leadership in Detroit or the state of Illinois (more overwhelmed by Chicago then Michigan is by its queen city) or, well, Washington DC ?

Obviously, in the great (tidal) scheme of All Things Big Government and rampant Administration corruption, this Illinois matter is indeed small potatoes, easily passed over with a shrug. But the money shot in this story is in the last paragraph.

Since the state of Illinois “only” misspent $50 million in its food stamp program last year, it is being not only “lauded” by Secretary Vilsack’s USDA, it is being awarded $4 million. Story exposing the matter here.

This is the government “mind” at work. For wasting only a “small” percentage of taxpayer money a government agency is given some more money as a “reward”! Huh!?

Would it make more sense  and more responsible stewardship of other people’s money to set up “accuracy” goals, 2% error rate for example, which if exceeded would be subject to certain sanctions such as reduced allocations in the following year. If goals are met or exceeded, Secretary Vilsack could offer his hearty congratulations and impose no sanctions on the “high performing” agency.

A side note: apparently the $4 million “award” to Illinois is without strings, for the state to spend as it wishes. Now their dilemma is, to which unions and how much “walkin’ around money” will be handed out?      DLH
