they want their communism back
Thomas Friedman, the New York Times (NYT) columnist, should be proud. The Obama government is now operating in the same style as that Friedman has so admired, the Chinese Communist People’s Republic! An excerpt from his column (NYT, Sep 9, 2009):
” . . . There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which is what we have in America today.
“One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century. It is not an accident that China is committed to overtaking us in electric cars, solar power, energy efficiency, batteries, nuclear power and wind power. China’s leaders understand that in a world of exploding populations and rising emerging-market middle classes, demand for clean power and energy efficiency is going to soar. Beijing wants to make sure that it owns that industry and is ordering the policies to do that, including boosting gasoline prices, from the top down.
“Our one-party democracy is worse. The fact is, on both the energy/climate legislation and health care legislation, only the Democrats are really playing.”
Well Tom, welcome to Beijing. Just a couple of stories that should warm your little Marxist heart. “Ping” Obama (nicknamed for his spiritual mentor, Xi Jin Ping, surname “Xi”, President of the PRC and General Secretary of the Communist Party) has taken your direction and is proceeding full speed ahead.
While the American press is trashing efforts by Senator Ted Cruz and a few others to bring some common sense to the issues of the disastrous Obamacare legislation and the nation’s imminent bankruptcy, President Obama’s administration is blatantly exercising the full power of a police state to protect his devastating and failed policies.
Especially tragic about all of this is the failure of ordinary Americans to realize what is happening to their great country. Piece by piece, step by step, the Obama machine is rolling over its citizens and their constitutional rights. Laws that he doesn’t like are ignored or simply broken (immigration, “No child…”, Defense of Marriage Act, his own healthcare act, etc).
His Attorney General flaunts his racist and discriminatory practices — he sues states which try to uphold immigration law and gives states which break those laws…”sanctuary cities”, California’s various pro-illegal immigrant favors, a free pass, and he directs that voting corruption will be tolerated for certain racial groups.
Christianity and particularly the Catholic faith are under attack by this administration and the church’s leaders seem not to even realize it (anyone hear a sermon this week which called attention to threats by the federal government to arrest military chaplains if they attempt to carry out their duties during the “government shutdown”). It is impossible for me to have imagined a column by a prominent American writer appearing in even the New York Times just 10 years ago lauding a totalitarian state and touting an oppressive Communist system over a free American society. But, I guess times change. The NY Times is now anything but a respected source of reliable information for much of this nation’s citizenry. (In fact, it never was but since it has dropped all pretense of being anything more than a political pamphlet in the service of an aspiring dictator, any cachet it may have once had is certainly gone.) And that “prominent” American writer is an unsightly, embarrassing caricature, respected only by himself, the anti-American left, and rent-seeking dupes who fashion themselves as the intellectual elite.
Look around America! When you see Park Service employees, commissioned to behave like jackbooted thugs descending on an independent (of government) business ordering it to close in the name of our President’s juvenile petulence, you are looking at the police state which many of us have naively thought “it can’t happen here”. Friends, it IS happening here, right before our very eyes.
