Another Week, Another Homily

you-can-avoid-stories-jihad-vik-battaile-republican-obama-politics-1345460420I went to Mass Saturday evening. The sermon was not long and I suppose somewhat inspiring for some. Seemed to me to be pretty standard fare, so much so that I can’t recall even an “Ace” I could keep, as the Kenny Rogers’ hit song, “The Gambler”,describes.

There was one thing I did take away from the priest’s earnest pleas for doing good and avoiding sin. That was, the complete absence of any reference, for the second straight week,  to the continuing and stepped up assault on Christianity, Catholicism in particular, which is under way by the federal government and Barack Obama.

It’s no longer in the news cycle which is “updated” every 24 hours but perhaps some might recall that the administration has declared that until the “shutdown” ends Catholic military chaplains risk arrest if they attempt to say Mass at military installations, even if they volunteer to do so without pay or official sanction or, even if they are non-military “contract” priests.

At least at my church, there has been no reference from the pulpit (or otherwise, as far as I know) to, what in an earlier era, would be recognized as a blatant act  of tyrannical attack on organized religion.

No real surprise, though, as far the Catholic Church  leadership is concerned. US bishops were in hardy support of Obamacare until it seemed to gore one of their oxen…the dictate from devout Catholic, Kathleen Sebelius that the church must cover abortifacients in its health insurance plans for some of its agencies. Their protests were news for slightly longer than the normal news cycle but were soon forgotten and whatever influence the Church might have over its faithful, failed to withhold “approval” of the Obama approach to governance in the 2012 election.

So now, we are seeing the next step in Obama’s Stalinist approach to organized religion. And where is the Catholic Church? Still offering homilies about being good, avoiding sin, eschewing material wealth, and soliciting financial support.

Wonder what the military Imams have been doing the past two weeks. Are they continuing to conduct their ministry to their military faithful?

Anybody know?   DLH
