More Guns, Less Crime
To be sure conservatives have known this for a long time, indeed it was the name of a book by John Lott , first published in 1998. Once again statistics confirm what should be intuition. Violent criminals are more active when they can figure someone is not armed. As gun ownership has increased by law abiding citizens, violent crime has decreased. Gun grabbers may say there are other reasons, but then they say poverty increases crime and isn’t poverty up? Gun grabbers said increased gun ownership would result in more violent crime. It categorically has not. Violent crime rates are lower where gun ownership is higher. Read Jason Riley’s Wall street Journal summation of the recent FBI crime report here.
Obamacouldn’tcareless
Ann Coulter points out that the survival rate for cancers in the United States (at least prior to Obamacare) is substantially better than countries leftists like to tout for their government run health care systems. She also ridicules the proposition from Obamacare champions that Obamacare is fairer by their standards:
The Obamacare tax is a massively regressive poll tax on the middle-aged and the middle class . . .
Apart from those who are subsidized, everyone pays the exact same amount in penalties or insurance premiums for his age group. It doesn’t matter if you don’t make as much money as Bill Gates. Any 58-year-old male who doesn’t qualify for a subsidy will pay the same Obamacare tax as Gates. . . .
That’s why your insurance premiums have to go through the roof and your Obamacare tax is the same as Bill Gates’. So across the world, we’ll all be equal, dying of cancer, heart disease and diabetes as often as everyone else.
It’s not that Obama doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism; it’s that he wants to end it.
Late Night Comics Protect Obama
That, according to the man who was Johnny Carson’s head writer, Raymond Siller. Appearing in Breitbart today we found his article a confirmation in general of our observations. However the credit he gives to Jay Leno for not conforming to the rule we do not feel quite deserves the kudos.
Leno was still at least center left, emphasis on left. He was just as politically correct, it is not like he didn’t adopt the liberal narrative on any number of issues. He only smelled blood in the water as regards Obama. The nature of the quips in our observation was never that Obama was stupid or uncool nor were they possessed of snideness directed at Obama personally. Foibles and ribbing yes, but only later anything that might serve to undermine him. But with Republicans they all made fun of policies and the person all the time.
And we believe Leno’s willingness to go after Obama and all his works during his last days (Leno’s) had as much to do with his eagerness to poke NBC in the eye. Can you imagine the anguish in NBC’s executive suites every time Leno made his irreverent references toward “The One”?
The article is revealing. However Siller clearly has a presumption that Johnny Carson was mister middle America. We thought he was a significant propagandist in his own right. One of his frequent guests was Paul Ehrlich, the Population Bomb guy. When Johnny Carson started promoting him and his thesis, cultural degradations were aggravated regarding personal responsibility, family, marriage and the worth of the individual. Erlich’s thesis in his book and subsequent claims were proven to be wrong. But Carson bought in to them wholesale.
What we took from Siller’s observations about current late late night humor on Fox (Red Eye), that humor and ridicule from the right could be successfully mainstreamed as the left has done for decades.
