Tidbits from here and there

With astonishment, reader TN refers us to: Top Five stories of week at the QC Times?
Think about what has been going on in the world, the nation and locally. No mention of even the RI County Sheriff flap, but a reprint from twelve days ago?

Says something about the general readership at the Quad City Times.

DLH draws attention to a petition we can get behind (via The Daily Caller) :

“We urge President Obama to immediately and publicly recognize that Mr. Omar J. Gonzalez, an oppressed migrant, was merely looking for a better life when he entered the White House after going over the classist, divisive and needless fence,” says the petition, which was authored by D.A. King, founder of the Georgia-based Dustin Inman Society, which advocates for actual enforcement of immigration law.

“In the interest of White House diversity and what will surely result in adding to the rich tapestry of love and community, we further demand that the President reform the mean-spirited laws regulating access to the People’s House,” says King’s’ petition, which mimics the pro-amnesty language used by business and ethnic lobbies.

“For justice and peace, upon his next return from the back-nine, Mr. Obama must award permanent lawful WH residency to Mr. Gonzalez and his family, along with a permit to work there. Because.” concludes the petition, which can be electronically signed at the White House website.

Via KF – the new name for Chicago  –  “Pre-Detroit”

According to his information Chicago is actuarially worse off than Detroit.   Rumor is that da Mayor Richie Daley took his leave in 2011 after Democrats lost the U.S. House and Speaker Pelosi was accordingly replaced.  The public union pension situation in the state is in horrendous shape. The plan was that under the continuing Speakership of Nancy Pelosi Democrats would be in a poison position to steamroll local public employee pensions into some ERISA like federal guarantee, you know, rather than make it actuarially sound. It was to be another bailout foisted on U.S. taxpayers to pay for Democrat malfeasance and utter corruption. Richie got out –  it was an opportunity he couldn’t refuse.

Adding more links:

HP sends a link to a blog with great merit  Bookworm Room
Conservatives deal with facts and reach conclusions; liberals have conclusions and sell them as facts”  We note that they also like pithy posters.

VM sends us this link to US Elections  which has an easy to use format for quickly checking and obtaining other links to various races in each state. Commentary seams to lean libertarian.  We are locating it in our general blogroll.

How did we fail to provide a continuous home page link to The Federalist.  We actually read it frequently and have quoted and referred to it.  It is now more readily available as a link.

I should have mentioned:the twelve-day-old story resurrected and pumped by the QCT as a top story of the week, was the item detailing the 90+ year old lesbian wedding!
    Top Story, indeed!
