Good ol’ George — making a thinly veiled case for Greg Orman.
George Will — Staking the Senate on Kansas?
Electing Orman would deepen the Senate’s pool of talent, but it might thwart Republican efforts to control the Senate
“Might” George?! Who could possibly outbid Democrats?
Orman discusses policy problems with a fluency rare among Senate candidates and unusual among senators.
We might have to concede that point George, but it is not a very Republican thing for you to say, being so inclusive.
He is reading Paul Ryan’s new book, “The Way Forward,” and shares Ryan’s anxiety about how nearly 60 percent of federal expenditures are not subject to annual appropriations. He also shares Ryan’s dismay that a single mother earning about $20,000 can pay, in effect, a marginal tax rate twice as high as the 39.6 percent top statutory rate on the affluent because she can lose government benefits and incur expenses when she increases her earnings.
Ryan is equating loss of welfare with paying taxes, and we suppose the earned income tax credit is really a rebate of taxes paid. Giving up a tax benefit is not properly referred to as a tax unless you pay taxes. It is the sort of leftest logic that because my disposable income is less than that of a millionaire I am really paying more for hamburger or hockey tickets. A mere philosophical point perhaps, but one that should not be lost on Will.
We understand that welfare as constituted provides disincentives to work but progressive income taxes and taxes on income period, create many disincentives for everyone. If Will is going to let that one pass without some critique of Ryan and Orman then we are thinking that he should really just lay back and relax. With that sort of write-up the Dems will continue in charge, and with him at 73, and only two years left in the Democrat healthcare scheme of things, and nowhere to go , the Zekemeister will be knocking.
Victor Davis Hanson at National Review — Should We Hope To Die at 75?
This is a followup to the Ezekiel “Zeke” Emanuel essay on why any further investment of health or medical resources in people over 75 is a terrible waste. Hanson is accomplished, educated, brilliant, and yet, he is not a liberal Democrat (imagine that!). He has a little different take than the chief architect of Obamacare. We would hope people would read and reflect on his essay before they pull the plug lever and vote.
Joni Ernst is being pummeled and we wonder if this is the war on women everyone is talking about:
Honestly speaking, we are being pummeled on television by Bruce Braley and his liberal Washington allies. Please contribute $25 right now to help keep my ads up and running.
With the race this close, every single voter we reach could be the deciding factor. I need your help now more than ever—please chip in today.
Onward to Victory,
We are thinking maybe the shortage is due to the inspiration provided by those ads. We get that you are a mom but when are you going to go after Braley on immigration, on his lockstep votes with Pelosi and Obama?
