Sen. Levin: Withholding Funds From President ‘Traditional’
“It happens all the time,” the Michigan Democrat said.
It is not uncommon that there are “amendments saying ‘none of the funds in this appropriation bill may be spent for’ — fill in the blank,” Levin told NRO.
Levin termed withholding funds for the president’s executive orders on immigration a standard congressional procedure and said it “should not be confused with shutting down the government,” NRO reported.
“That’s not slash and burn,” Levin said. “That’s not bringing down the government. That’s a fairly traditional, targeted approach to make a policy point.”
We will be happy not to confuse it and we would be especially happy if Senator Mitch McConnell would not refer to efforts to stop Obamacare through the power of the purse as “shutting down government” (or by implication Obama’s executive orders).
Read here for insight as to how McConnell was not serious about stopping funding for Obamacare. Blustering and saying you did all you could do without even trying to make the case that it was Obamacrats that “shut down the government” over one provision of the continuing resolution is pathetic. McConnell is horrible at reading the American people and uninspired in conservative principles. On immigration, on Obamacare, it is really hard not to believe that he and other members of the Republican establishment are captured by crony capitalist interests inimical to the culture and the Constitution.
