. . . if Republican leadership does not want to risk party disintegration
This is a case where Speaker Boehner needs to put in all the stops.
Redstate’s Erick Erickson writes:
Would You Please Click Here to Order John Boehner Some New Balls?
. . . I mean, think about this. For the last three months, the GOP actively campaigned against Barack Obama’s planned amnesty action while the Democrats attacked the GOP for a government shut down. You could be forgiven for thinking the GOP just got its ass kicked in the last election given the way the GOP leadership is behaving …
Erickson’s Morning Brief is not uncertain about the need to contact Congress and stop Obama’s usurpation of the Constitution through executive orders (EO).
While my congressman is a liberal Democrat I phoned the following message in the hope that he may find some balls of his own as suggested by Erickson rather spend his days chasing the one’s Obama tosses in the air. It is worded to appeal to any sense of constitutionalism and practicality he may have. While it might serve as a “bipartisan” message, definitely feel free to be politically direct with your Republican congressman.
“as a matter of principle in opposing unconstitutional overreach and maintaining congressional prerogatives and independence, I urge you to support legislation to deny any funding for President Obama’s immigration executive orders. Beyond the lawless overreach the practicality of them is that they will hurt American citizen’s job prospects and further burden already horrendous budget problems.”
We will not be fooled by show votes – Obama’s unconstitutional amnesty EO must be stopped.
The plea to contact Congress from Redstate included this message
Your congressman does now want to stop Barack Obama’s executive amnesty plan.
But if Congress does not stop him here, it will just embolden him to do even more.
Call your congressman and tell him you do not want a vote expressing opposition, you want Obama stopped.
Further, tell your congressman that if it requires shutting down the government, so be it.
If Obama is not stopped here, he will not be stopped by Republicans at all.
Tell your congressman not to pass a continuing resolution without specific language prohibiting Barack Obama’s executive amnesty overreach.
Tell your congressman to oppose the rule on the continuing resolution and support nothing unless it defunds the President’s plan (further elaborated on in their message available here).
Redstate provides a link to contact your Congressman’s office by phone (which is what we used). Alternatively the list of links below will take you to the contact pages for Iowa’s congressional delegation. We have added the contact page for Illinois Congressman Cheri Bustos as well. The key votes on this will involve lame duck congressman prior to Christmas adjournment. When the new congress reconvenes Dave Young will take Tom Latham’s place and Rod Bloom (praise the Lord) will take Bruce Braley’s place. The available contact information for them is also provided. Time is of the essence. It will help drive the message if we contact all of them at least by e-mail.
