How did it come to this? — “Leadership” that should know better

From the Daily Caller:

“Ramos and Liu were gunned down in cold blood, execution-style, by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, as retribution for the recent deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. de Blasio infamously encouraged protests against his own police department in the aftermath of the grand jury’s decision not to indict the officers in the Garner case.

“Mayor de Blasio, the blood of these two officers is clearly on your hands,” said Sergeants Benevolent Association police union president Edward Mullins.”

“It’s unfortunate that in a time of great tragedy, some would resort to irresponsible, overheated rhetoric that angers and divides people,” de Blasio spokesman Marti Adams said in a statement following the union leaders’ remarks.

But recall the mayor’s “non-political” statements earlier this month via NPR.

Citing “centuries of racism that have brought us to this day,” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says that the fact that protesters have rallied around the statement “Black lives matter” reflects a sad situation, that such an idea needs to be both stated and repeated.

And then there is this applause line directed in support of the New York Police but emanating from an Eminence that isn’t shy about fueling the radical left either.

“We are in solidarity with you”, New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan told the public officials.” this from a story in Monday’s Wall Street Journal

Of course Cardinal Dolan is also “in solidarity” with Mayor DiBlasio, the dedicated socialist/communist mayor of New York on other matters. Cardinal Dolan and the US bishops are also “in solidarity” with President Obama on various “social justice” issues, including his race baiting, as they are with Obama’s unconstitutional actions and policies on illegal immigration.  Somewhere along the way respect for the law got corrupted in the Catholic “social justice” apparat to the end justifying the means.

Cardinal Dolan and the Church  also supports Obamacare, with the possible exception of  that pesky part which infringes on the Catholic Church’s religious freedom and kills people, as it seeks to inculcate abortion and euthanasia into the fabric of society. His Eminence needs to understand that Pandora’s box has been opened with their help, in New York and across the nation. Prudence was not a  governing philosophy in their advocacies.  Indeed as this American Thinker article asks Why is the Catholic Church Surprised?

And by the way, whatever happened to the Church’s opposition to “Liberation Theology”? And to the socialist/communist ideology? It seems to have radically evolved from Rerum Novarum, the 1891 encyclical of Pope Leo XIII, On Capital and Labor.

22. Regarding the sharing of material possessions  [14] It is duty, not of justice (save in extreme cases), but of Christian charity — a duty not enforced by human law.
