Oscar afterthoughts

“Although it received six Oscar nominations…(“American Sniper”)… only took home an award for sound editing.”

The line at my local theater to see it stretched for two blocks. There’s a lot of sound editing aficionados out there.

Oscars Punctuated by Politics

the Oscars awarded “Birdman” best picture, opting for a movie that epitomizes Hollywood — showy, ego-mad, desperate for artistic credibilit

“Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” also won best director for Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, best original screenplay and best cinematography . . .

Inarritu, a larger-than-life figure of frizzy hair regularly wrapped in a scarf, concluded the night’s many moving speeches that called for societal progress. Inarritu said he prays his native country finds “a government we deserve” and that immigrants to the U.S. “can be treated with the same dignity and the respect of the ones who came before and (built) this incredible immigrant nation.”

What is particularly oppressive is the big budget for “dignity and respect” we lay on Mexican and other immigrants entering this country legally and illegally.  They have benefited mightily from US citizen taxpayer largess including what amounts to affirmative action for Central American nationals.  The level is  far and away more than European waves of  immigrants received.

Political correctness is what Secretaries of Defense do

Secretary of Defense Appoints Out Gay Man As Chief Of Staff

Just wondering, with “gays” comprising maybe 1 to2 percent of the population, when are we going to run out of them to make all these appointments necessary to demonstrate “inclusivity”?

Carter summons U.S. military commanders, diplomats to Kuwait

ISIS will have to await Jen Psaki’s press release detailing any military strategies, including force composition, deployment timetables, etc which may be accidentally touched on in this meeting.

Not to be greatly concerned because the tip-off to the apparent main reason for the get-together is to address other major issues like the shortage of transgenders in the ranks of our military.

No need for Pope Francis to obsess  about this on his upcoming visit .

Latest Outrage: Obama Forcing Christian Charities to Provide Abortions to Refugees

How does it get any more depressing than this?

What Will States Do If Court Kills Health Insurance Subsidies?  (Reuters)

Also  “States have no plan if Justices cut subsidies”(AP).  This is the opening shot of the media’s all out effort to pressure the highly “pressurable” Supreme Court leading up to the Court’s latest hearing and decision involving O’care. I have NO doubt whatever that the Court will refuse to uphold the position of the 26 or so states that brought the suit.

Did the poll ask if the respondent had a retirement fund?

Poll: Most Back Raising Investment-Income Tax

“The rich aren’t taxed enough”; AP-GfK…found that most people support …Obama’s proposal to raise investment taxes on high income families”…”(echoing)… the messages of …Elizabeth Warren…and Bernie Sanders”. Now I know all of us were anxiously waiting to hear what “Bob Montgomery of Martinsville, VA” thought about this: (AP reports that Bob is retired, worked 40 years for an ‘auto dealership’). Bob said people with high incomes should pay more, “I think the more you make the more taxes you should pay…”.

Yep, that’s what Bob thinks. We sure do hope AP keeps in touch with Bob ’cause he’s probably got some purty strong opinions on foreign policy, Obama care, immigration, and Bill O’Reilly’s Falklands reporting a hundred years ago.

Speaking of O’Reilly: Major controversy with charges that ol’ Bill “embellished” his reporting escapades way back in the day. Who knows, but I think I’d have to hear the case from more credible sources than Mother Jones and CNN. Maybe “Bob Montgomery, of Martinsville, VA” will weigh in…or perhaps, even “50,000 Watts Phil”?

Jeb has a Newt problem?

Documents show the expensive tastes of low-key wife…

What can we say?  Go talk to Tiffany’s.  From a few years ago:

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich (R) said Sunday that there was nothing unusual about his and his wife’s arrangement with Tiffany & Co. that left them as much as a half-million dollars in debt to the high-end jewelry store.

Finally, DON”T GO TO THE MALL

What’s got me most bummed: At various times during the day, from various “news” shows, the lead story was the impending deadline on “security funding” for the Department of Homeland Security. EVERY, and I mean EVERY report did not fail to note that if there’s no “clean bill” for our Dear Leader to sign, the sky will fall, plague will descend, and it will rain frogs from the heavens and the Republicans will be blamed and banished forever from this good earth!

And Jeh (rhymes with ‘eh’) helpfully chimed in with dire warnings that the Abercrombie store in the Mall in Minneapolis faces imminent threat from ISIS if DHS is not fully funded by sundown.

I know…we’ve talked this to death but time does not permit a mere listing of everything wrong with this picture, beginning and ending with the question, “Why would anyone ever again vote for someone who is willing to identify themselves as a ‘Republican'”?

Peace be with you and recall, “The future does not belong to those who slander the Prophet”.

  1. Carlos Danger says:

    “Don’t go to the mall”

More fear mongering from the regime who thinks Republicans are as bad as ISIS-

“A new intelligence assessment, circulated by the Department of Homeland Security this month and reviewed by CNN, focuses on the domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists and comes as the Obama administration holds a White House conference to focus efforts to fight violent extremism.

Some federal and local law enforcement groups view the domestic terror threat from sovereign citizen groups as equal to — and in some cases greater than — the threat from foreign Islamic terror groups, such as ISIS, that garner more public attention.”
