“Bless me, Father, for I have sinned…grievously. Before the cock crowed, I denied climate change three times…”

The future for Veritas for its man-caused global warming skepticisms       heresies.

In this lovely “news story” below, it’s hard to pick my favorite observation, but this one is certainly in the running. From an NBC story by Noreen O’Donnell:  Pope Francis Urges Quick Action on Climate Change, Set to Unveil Official Church Position

. . . Cardinal Peter Turkson, said in a recent speech that . . . “Rather than provide a narrow agenda for greening the church or a comparison of the merits of capitalism versus communism, the encyclical will emphasize caring for people and the environment, Turkson said.

“The threats that arise from global inequality and the destruction of the environment are interrelated; and they are the greatest threats we face as a human family today,” Turkson said in what was regarded as a preview of the encyclical.”

Forget all that stuff about the murder of Christians in the Middle East, or the dire threat of global terrorism, and just stop “obsessing over trivial stuff like abortion and the tyranny of the gay movement, this “climate change” is a big deal; listen to your ‘other’ Dear Leader.

A Cardinal and more with a little different perspective:

This link is to a December news story from the “devout Roman Catholic newspaper” (yes, that’s a joke), the UK’s Guardian: Pope Francis’s edict on climate change will anger deniers and US churches

However, Francis’s environmental radicalism is likely to attract resistance from Vatican conservatives and in rightwing church circles, particularly in the US – where Catholic climate sceptics also include John Boehner, Republican leader of the House of Representatives and Rick Santorum, the former Republican presidential candidate.

Cardinal George Pell, a former archbishop of Sydney who has been placed in charge of the Vatican’s budget, is a climate change sceptic who has been criticised for claiming that global warming has ceased and that if carbon dioxide in the atmosphere were doubled, then “plants would love it”.  . . .

Francis will also be opposed by the powerful US evangelical movement, said Calvin Beisner, spokesman for the conservative Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, which has declared the US environmental movement to be “un-biblical” and a false religion.

“The pope should back off,” he said. “The Catholic church is correct on the ethical principles but has been misled on the science. It follows that the policies the Vatican is promoting are incorrect. Our position reflects the views of millions of evangelical Christians in the US.”

  1. phil silverman says:

no global warming , just the oceans and enough warming on land to melt LAND ice, and affect Alaskan shoreline & Greenland.

you say no global warming or at least none affected by man’s unnatural airborne stuff? fine….the KOch’s disinformation program is then partially successful. they want the end of EPA so they can dump anyplace they want > the “Freedom” to dump next to a high school football field.
