Et Tu, Rand Paul ? – DC insiderism at its worst

  • Stonewalling, obfuscation, CYA BS from Rand Paul
  • We expect this from Mitch McConnell

Screen shot 2015-05-09 at 1.04.55 PM“The most powerful interest group in Washington D.C., is not the Chamber or the unions or anyone else,” Cannon says. “It is members of Congress and their staffs. And when it comes to their benefits, they are all members of the same party.”

The above quote is from this expose in National Review by Brendan Bordelon.      How Five Republicans Let Congress Keep Its Fraudulent Obamacare Subsidies    Subtitled Health-care experts call it D.C. insiderism at its worst, it really is a must read as we evaluate the candidates appealing for our caucus support here in Iowa.

The essence of this story is the pathetic subterfuge undertaken by those who got elected with promises of making Congress and Washington live by the rules they make for others. The particulars involve the maneuvers and chicanery to exempt Congress and staff of both parties from the costs imposed on the rest of the country for Obamacare.  Whatever case they would pretend to make for such special treatment is beside the point of their underhanded dark of night approach, and the obfuscations for such duplicity and the stonewalling, slow-walking and coverup that has ensued.

While others are involved, we focus on Rand Paul because he is one of those at the center of the scandal (with the power to root it out), because of his claims to be something of the outsider, and because he is running to be President.

There is no excuse for this from what Rand Paul pretends to be.  This is the ugly test. Rand by this is as much in Mitch McConnell’s pocket, for the good of the Senate of course, as any of the other suspects in Washington. Mitch, the “Boner”, and the other key members of the establishment GOP caucus are running a bamboozle machine and Rand wants their support for his own ambitions.  He is sullying himself too much and will owe too much to pretend that he will be capable of changing things.

Scanning the 700 plus comments to the article we see evidence that the Liberty movement is prematurely presumed to be in the tank for Rand Paul. One indication is in the scant defense of Paul by respondents. Liberty folks are more than capable of  mounting vociferous responses to calumny about the cause or “the candidate.”  When it appear on other matters calling into question Paul’s consistency on matters of principle, it is the nature that he is just playing the game on some things of no consequence.  But it appears covering up political self-dealing by the Congress and its apparat are weeds they are not interested in plucking him from. If Rand Paul has wide support from Liberty folks, their must be a whole lot of chagrinin’ goin’ on.
