His expressed attitudes, policies and emphasis precede him. Conservative tokenisms notwithstanding.
As a major element of his visit to the US later this month, Pope Francis will say the Mass in Washington D.C. in Spanish, reportedly to show his solidarity with “the large US Hispanic population” and to signal the Catholic Church’s “advocacy of immigration”…legal or illegal!
During his visit, though the Pope likely will not actually extend his middle finger to American values, laws, economic system, and founding principles, many of us would say that would not just be unbecoming, but totally unnecessary since he has already made his sentiments on those matters abundantly clear.
This latest revelation, that he’ll say Mass in Spanish, is just more evidence that Pope Francis intends to use his visit to America to wage the most aggressive political, and partisan, campaign in the modern history of the Catholic Church to advance a uniquely personal papal agenda. (Incidentally, reports of Francis’ plans included note that although the Mass will be in Spanish, his address to Congress will be in English.)
Francis has gone out of his way to minimize widespread concerns about the blatant assault by the Obama administration on the most fundamental church principles and religious freedom in order to exploit his agreement with much of president Obama’s agenda, including “global warming”, wealth redistribution, global governance, and the advancement of many Marxist ideas.
It is likely that American Catholics will be exposed to the most leftist Pontiff ever seen since this country’s founding. And sadly, there is a great likelihood that many, if not most, will be so enamored by the overwhelming spiritual majesty of the Office and the skillful manipulation of public opinion, both religious and secular that they will not even be aware.
The public relations machine has been gearing up and began this week, with both ABC and MSNBC doing puff pieces on Francis’ “more welcoming” approach by the Church. His compassion and concern for those historically regarded as outcasts by the Church is widely reported. His “press clippings” will laud his compassionate outreach to those who have seemed to find it necessary to have had or to perform abortions and his nonjudgmental attitude toward gay marriage.
Above all, American people will hear much about and be moved by Pope Francis “humbleness” and his concern for the poor… those tragic victims of “unfettered” capitalism and “climate change”.
About all that remains for His Holiness to do before his visit later this month is to announce his support for Obama’s Iran nuclear agreement ahead of a US congress vote. Which Democrat Pope Francis endorses for president probably will not be announced during this visit.
