Ryan wants to be begged, DLH is more “available”
Via Politico: What it would take for Ryan to run
The conservatives who drove out John Boehner would need to get behind him unconditionally for speaker.
“Ryan wants people to support him because they think he’s a good leader who will do the right thing for the party and the country, not because he’s agreed to a set of demands, according to people close to him.”
Veritas PAC senior editor DLH is quoted regarding his interest:
Heck! I feel the same way. Think I’ll run for Speaker if I can get that deal.
Rand’s got some politicking to do
We briefly attended a Rand Paul “Iowa 10000 College Tour” event at St Ambrose this morning. We arrived as the meeting ended but asked knowledgeable observers about the attendance – “about 80 but not many students ” and “maybe 20 or so students the rest probably not” The figure includes whoever had to be there as part of Senator Paul’s entourage.
There are about 67 post high school educational institutions in Iowa. There are by our estimation 260,000 or so students in the state who attend “on campus” not via Internet or remote learning. There are, we guess, about 13000 attending school in Scott County. His goal is about 4% of college students statewide to turnout and caucus for him (they would be part of the total committed to him).
Well to put it simply, in order to be impressed that his goal was achievable one might have expected to see 200 students there but we would have been impressed with 100 to show Scott County students would eventually comprise a proportional amount of the total needed. Twenty or so just does not engender much confidence.
The GOPe is not above it all when protecting their own
