Missouri watershed

Even if you only read the sports pages most readers will be aware of the University of Missouri at Columbia fiasco of liberalism run a muck. Members of the football team threw a tantrum on the flimsiest of evidence of racism on campus and were allowed to dictate terms to the academic regents, insisting that the president of the university be removed or they wouldn’t play football.  These “scholars” should have been told to pack their bags and go somewhere else if they were intent on dropping their “scholarships” to make whatever point they were trying to make. But now these tools of provocateurs have let the genie out of the bottle.

The implications of what the football team was allowed to do (egged on by the usual race-bating interests) are astounding.  Besides pointing up the apparent dependence of the university system on football (we doubt the golf team could get this much attention) the implication of the incident, unremedied, is either the end of American higher education prominence,  or highlights how pathetic it has been for so long to have come to this.  As extensive as the implications are for higher education administration, that it involves education implicates, well, everything downstream.  The drama would be welcome if the football team was striking to get value for their time and tax payer’s money against the educational system that fails to produce. But it was not.  It was a pathetic juvenile tantrum enabled by an educational establishment no more mature in its reasoning ability.

Jack Cashill, writing at American Thinker has an outstanding article that suggests something of this;   The Left Eats Its Own at MU   We highly recommend this readable piece which intertwines a bit of his personal experience with the “higher education” system.  Cashill does great research and his writings are memorable. A KC boy it’s a pleasure to listen to him on local radio, unfortunately, only occasionally.  Excerpt:

As the social justice movement enters its Jacobin phase, I can only wonder what a James Meredith might think about the incidents that caused the protest. An Air Force vet, James Meredith risked his life to integrate the University of Mississippi in 1962, a harrowing tale well chronicled in William Doyle’s An American Insurrection. Less well-known is that Meredith became a Republican and an adviser to Sen. Jesse Helms.

But after Cashill’s article was written there came the incident of a Mass Communications  assistant professor their aggressively trying to prevent reporting of a rally celebrating dismissal of the university’s president.  The reporter / photographer was a university student trying to cover an event staged by university students in a public area.  That stalwart of mass communication will serve as the latest poster child of liberal hypocrisy and verification that as David Horowitz maintains , “Inside Every Liberal Is A Totalitarian Screaming To Get Out”  Literally as is so often the case.

This extensive report at heavy.com —   Melissa Click: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know —         will bring readers up to speed on the latest poster child representing the left.
