On the presumption of innocence and other matters

Spirit wanting

Where’s that spirit of “Suffer the terrorists…er, the little children unto me”?
News from the AP:

images-2“There has been a visible increase in security around the Vatican following the Paris attacks and ahead of Pope Francis’ big Jubilee Year, which opens Dec. 8.

“Francis’ personal security detail was nearly doubled during his Wednesday general audience, and the carabinieri were out in force in St. Peter’s Square.

“Italy is already planning to close the airspace over Rome during special Jubilee celebrations. Rome’s prefect, Franco Gabrielli, said Wednesday authorities were prepared to shoot down drones and ultralight aircraft if they violate the air space ban.

Millions of pilgrims are expected to descend on Rome for various celebrations over the course of the Jubilee year. Already, the government has added 700 extra soldiers for the capital.”

Increased security at the Vatican !!?? How welcoming of refugees from violence, deprivation, and global warming is that?

Perhaps the pope is just being practical — or is that a sin?

Watch for it

Last night’s 10 pm news kicked it off I think. That is the orchestrated media campaign to dampen the public’s resistance to the invasion of Syrian refugees into USA.

On the local NBC affiliate was the nicest, most appealing Syrian refugee you’ve ever seen (I don’t know how many you’ve seen).  Your presumption is supposed to be that this refugee is typical.

He spoke perfect, even eloquent, English, studying to be a doctor, kind, concerned, reasonable, though of “military age” not a hostile bone in his body. By the end of his interview, I’m sure viewers were chanting “Bring in those refugees!”. Maybe even adding “Allahu…”

My prediction is that several nights a week in TV news all over the nation, similar interviews and ‘intimate glimpses’ into the lives and thoughts of the kindly, eager would be capitalist supporting refugees, anxious to savor the western culture and freedom will be showcased.

(Check out your local TV news. I’m betting Gary Metevier will be featuring a “refugee of the week’.)

A religion of peace does this?

Turkish fans jeer, chant “Allahu Akbar” during moment of silence for Paris victims

Now then, Mr. President. What’s that “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer” or…?
