Whether it is his Iowa list or his national list the poll indicates Cruz with a distinct lead over Trump.
It is not a “scientific” random sample of Republicans. However responses to the so-called “scientific” polls done by phone are often massaged using techniques open to question and built-in bias. This poll is conducted among those for whom Grassley’s political action committee possesses e-mail addresses. All polls involve voluntary responses. This one arguably reflects the preferences of Grassley’s more politically involved, responsive and therefore presumably more likely Republican caucus attendees.
Grassley’s poll is roughly consistent with the latest Des Moines Register/ Bloomberg poll which shows Cruz at 25, Trump at 22, Rubio at 12, Carson at 11, Paul at 5, Bush at 4, Huckabee at 3, Christie at 3, Fiorina at 2, Kasich at 2 and Santorum at 1
