Castro Castigates America. . . Obama Agrees

From Gary Bauer at Campaign for Working Families:

Yesterday’s joint press conference between Barack Obama and Raul Castro was a sorry spectacle to behold. Predictably, Castro launched into a tirade against America, castigating us for a variety of alleged sins and human rights violations. Obama’s defense of our values was about as limp as his wrist.

At one point Obama said, “I actually welcome President Castro commenting on some of the areas where he feels that we’re falling short.”

Of course, any American conservative who tells Obama where he is falling short is quickly branded a bigot. But when it comes to the Marxist Castro, Obama welcomes the critique.

Cubans have been fleeing the “workers’ paradise” for decades. Even after the supposed thaw in relations, they are still choosing to leave, coming across the Texas border in record numbers.

But there’s more. Castro also lectured Obama about a favorite left-wing theme — the notion that women in America are paid less for equal work. Sadly, Obama didn’t have the courage to remind Castro that equal pay for equal work in Cuba amounts to about $20 a month for men and women. Isn’t socialism wonderful? Everyone is equally poor!

Ted Cruz had this to say about Obama’s Cuba trip  (excerpts):

The White House keeps saying that this trip will chart a new course for people-to-people relations, but all that Obama’s appeasement of the Castro dictatorship has done so far is create a channel for inside deals between large corporations and the Cuban military, which holds all the keys to the island’s economy. The effect will not be liberalization but rather the institutionalization of the Communist dictatorship as the profits from this détente will line the pockets not only of Fidel and Raul Castro, but also of Raul’s son, Alejandro Castro Espin.

Corporate cronyism, meet communist totalitarianism.

….

I have news, Mr. President: No progress has taken place. Cuba is going backward.

Over the weekend a makeshift boat was rescued off Marco Island carrying 18 desperate refugees who were willing to risk their lives rather than endure the “progress” in Cuba. Nine had perished on the journey.

The independent Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation says that 1,141 Cubans were detained for political reasons last month alone, following the 1,447 that were detained in January.

So sycophancy is having the effect is always does: It is telling our enemies that they can behave with impunity.

I have a word for the people of Cuba who will witness the gaudy spectacle in Havana this weekend: America has not forgotten you.

I am the son of a Cuban who was beaten and tortured by Batista’s regime, and my aunt was likewise brutalized by Castro’s thugs. Thankfully, both my father and my Tía Sonia found freedom in the United States.

That freedom can come to Cuba, and I pledge to work to make it so. But it cannot happen by enriching and empowering the dictatorship, while they export terrorism throughout Latin America. And it cannot happen by forgetting the heroism and suffering of the brave souls who have opposed the Castros for so many decades.

Trump is not the best candidate to criticize Hillary (what other “known” criminals does he  contribute to or invite to his wedding)?

Cruz also responded to rather disengenuous comments of Donald Trump about his wedding guest Hillary.  Via Daily Wire:

Last Thursday night, Donald Trump, deciding he would turn his attention to the general election, threw a fastball down the middle on Twitter, unaware that someone in the batter’s box was prepared to swat the pitch out of sight.

Trump reared back and hurled this: “Hillary Clinton has been involved in corruption most of her professional life!”

But what Trump thought was a 95 mph bullet turned out to be more akin to a 30 mph soft-pitch softball lob, providing Ted Cruz the opportunity to wallop the pitch somewhere out in the hinterlands. Cruz bludgeoned Trump’s Eephus pitch, firing back on Twitter, “Then why did you contribute thousands of dollars to her?”
