Via interviews in The Hill: Washington wonders what is Paul Ryan up to
“Any effort to take the nomination away from Trump or Cruz, if either goes to Cleveland with far more delegates than anyone else, could hurt the GOP for years.
“I would envision pain for years to come,” one Republican said of the possibility.
This Republican said the GOP establishment needs a reset, something Ryan seems to realize, given his recent actions. Losing the election in 2016 could help with the reset and set the party up for victories in 2018 and 2020.”
We can imagine the reset — the NQD Party (Not Quite Democrat) party” , The Demopub Party or something. As far as the victories in 2018 and beyond we wonder for what. We think a “Republican” victory in 2020 unlikely after Hillary as people “get with the program” and “on board” and toked up for permanent dependency .
Ryan’s demurals and demurers notwithstanding
Paul Ryan is said to have scheduled a press conference to keep his name out there to say he will not run for president. After his “refusal” to run for Speaker one must parse every word and then be prepared to have him change his mind. We see him as pacing himself between now and Cleveland, keeping his options open, while taking up residency “in the wings.” Again in spite of whatever he says this afternoon.
