- Poor Juan, he goes to work with a big albatross around his neck
Another Day at the Shop for Juan Williams
Juan Williams has long enjoyed a widely respected reputation as a journalist, columnist, author, and commentator. He’s written a number of books and though, a lifelong liberal, Williams is widely respected for honesty even when his insights contradict liberal orthodoxy. It is generally understood that it was his forthrightness on issues related to race in America which led to his being fired by PBS. He was immediately signed to a lucrative contract with Fox News where he appears regularly on various news and commentary shows. Among them he is a co-host of “The Five” where he fills the role of a liberal analyst among a sea of conservative and ‘moderate’ fellow co-hosts.
It is, sadly, in this role that Mr. Williams is apparently compelled, either as part of his contract or his own fear of losing another lucrative gig, that he takes positions which are often patently inconsistent with his own image and professional history. He must frequently adopt a look of “astonishment” that this or that co-host could actually believe what he or she is saying. This very often occurs in recent months when another “Fiver” suggests that Hillary Clinton may not be the most honest and kindly person in modern politics. When a flood of facts emerge that support that contention, Williams is apparently required to appear to be completely clueless, reduced to uttering the latest leftist talking points.
It is very sad to see this genuinely good and decent and highly accomplished man willingly expose himself to the scrutiny of millions of viewers who most surely see his behavior in these instances as bordering on sheer buffoonery.
But that’s show business.

Juan: “Same-O, same-O; Had to make a complete ass of myself again. I don’t know how much longer I can act like I think Hillary should be president.”
Mrs. Williams: “Just remember, Juan, before you do anything. It pays the bills.”
