“And remember”, Tom scolded, “the starving children in Europe…er, I mean, the Middle East…or somewhere…” —————————————————-
Former Iowa governor and ethanol toady (like our current governor) Tom Vilesack made this provocative statement:
WASHINGTON — Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said America needs to stop wasting food, even if that means teaching people to cut back on the amount of food on their plates.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, the former Iowa governor said long-term food insecurity “is a challenge, because we’re going to have to increase food production — I’ve seen anywhere from 50 to 70 percent in the next 35 years — to meet a growing world population.”
“But the first step, and the one way the USDA can provide help and assistance to meet this need, is to expand on the — on the issue of food waste,” Vilsack said. “A third of the food that we grow, raise and produce in this country is never consumed the way it was intended. It’s wasted.”
“It ends up oftentimes in our landfills as solid waste. In fact, in our landfills today, food waste is the single largest component of solid waste in landfills.”
So food waste is the largest component of the landfills? Well that seems to say our landfill problems are largely solved because it is all biodegradable!! Not mentioned by Vilsack, is a type of “food waste” that is even more egregious. We refer to corn-based ethanol, a waste of food which does not make it into landfills and into few bellies because the corn is turned into ethanol and burned. Corn-based ethanol does serve to fatten the bellies of some big agribusiness types however.
Vilsack also believes Americans ~~ need to be taught~~. We know what that means to liberals — taxed and regulated up the wazoo. The recalcitrants a.k.a. “deplorables” among us will need to be “re-educated”. . . perhaps in camps . . . and the irredeemables . . . well why waste the camp space.

As commenter “Magnifico” wrote in response on the source PJ Media site: “stop converting corn into fuel, moron.”
We note something like 40% of Iowa’s corn production goes to ethanol. That implicates a lot of grade-A land used to fuel cars for no good reason.
