Actually, I found Mariah Carey’s performance indistinguishable from the usual superstar extravaganza that accompanies most of the other “major events” of our lifetime: the Super Bowl; the NFL Draft of Michael Sam as the first “openly queer” (that term now acceptable) football player; Every entertainment awards Show, etc, etc.

Aside from her “costume” (which actually made her appear like Michael Sam in drag), her ‘show’ was as anticipated…unentertaining! I hope 2017 is better than this!
However, if Mariah is to salvage her career after this fiasco, she’d better get out there with an announcement that she refused to perform at Trump’s Inaugural. DLH

Mariah Carey closes 2016 with disastrous NYE performance
Mariah Carey really dropped the ball in Times Square on New Year’s Eve — with lip syncing that was decidedly out-of-sync.
Carey had been assigned to perform two of her hit songs, “Emotions” and “We Belong Together.”
But the singer appeared unable to hear her own song track, ultimately giving up and standing on the stage with closed mouth and a hand on her hip.
Meanwhile, her vocal track went on without her.
“Well, Happy New Year,” she huffed. “We can’t hear, but I’ll just go through the motions,” she said, later adding, “I’m trying to be a good sport here.”
“It was kinda like the ‘Saturday Night Live’ performance,’’ said Leslie Keeley of Manhattan, referring to Ashlee Simpson’s infamous out-of-sync turn on “SNL” in 2004. “The end of 2016 was not good for Mariah.’’
Carey had been heavily hyped by ABC as the star attraction of “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve 2017. And indeed, she made quite a splash — just not in the way the network had intended.
Solace for some in Mariah’s performance
Ohio State should thank Mariah Carey. They no longer have the worst performance of the night.
