TRUMP’S ORDERS STIR DOUBTS IN CONGRESS

ARE YOU KIDDING?

This from those so concerned about Obama’s usurpations

Republican Lawmakers Prompted to “evaluate whether…actions might eventually infringe on Congress’s authority”

“Most Democrats opposed Mr. Trump’s executive actions”  (No sh-t!)

Believe it or not, this isn’t a ‘tongue-in-cheek story in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal. It seems there’s growing concern in Congress, on both sides of the aisle, that President Trump might be usurping some of the lawmakers’ jealously guarded responsibilities.

This is so utterly absurd that even the most optimistic among us is forced to consider the probability that things can never get better with these clowns attempting to run things!

For any member of Congress who served in that body for any length of time in the last 8 years to suddenly become concerned that the Executive may be “infringing” on its authority is so ridiculous one must wonder, despite their prestigious education credentials and highly touted political wisdom, if their collective IQ totals above 100.

Even that arch-conservative, Sen. Mike Lee is reportedly “examining whether the president is overreaching with his executive orders”.

Now the Journal does report that “Congress has been an “inconsistent” guardian of its own prerogatives”. It cites Obama’s decision to bypass Congress in 2014 with his DACA action to shield millions of illegal immigrants from deportation as provoking “loud railing” by lawmakers. But, then, it notes that the same year it declined to authorize use of military force to combat ISIS, ceding to Obama the war declaration powers that many lawmakers say belong to them.

But there’s far more important examples than this to illustrate how far the congress, especially Republicans, and most especially, GOP senators, has gone to relinquish its authorities and abdicate its role.

What about the “climate change agreement”? Or, even more  significant, the Iran “nuclear agreement”. The Constitution and all historical precedent give the power to the Senate to approve or reject major treaties negotiated by the Executive.

Obama simply changed the name of these “treaties” to call them “agreements” and enacted them while the majority GOP Senate stood around with their thumb up their you-know-whats and let it happen.

In fact Republican senator, Bob Corker, led legislation which officially approved a procedure to insure Obama’s desires were fulfilled regarding the Iran debacle!

I think congressional Republicans should stop wringing their tiny little hands and keep their concerns about President Trump’s “overreaching” executive actions to themselves until all of Obama’s illegal and/or unconstitutional actions have been rescinded.

Then, they might think about doing their own jobs properly and on behalf of the American people who sent them to Washington.                DLH
