“Sundown” and faith in GOP

“Sometimes I think it’s a sin
When I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin again”

There is a popular song by Gordon Lightfoot entitled “Sundown”. It’s a song of despair about a man whose woman has done him wrong. Even when he thinks that he has recaptured her love, he realizes deep down, he has not…she has betrayed him again.

I think this is an appropriate theme song for the conservative movement and for all those voters who faithfully shuffle to the polls every election and dutifully respond to the appeals and promises of GOP candidates: “Give us the House and we’ll hold the Democratic party Left at bay!”; “Give us the Senate and with the House, we’ll be able to advance your agenda and restore America’s traditional values and Constitutional governance!”; “Give us the Presidency, along with the House and Senate and we will make America truly great again among the world’s nations!”…they cried, election after election.

Somehow it made us feel like we were winning…but, we were only losing again.

The Democratic Party has its “Happy Days Are Here Again” as its theme…sadly, we have “Sundown”.

Sometimes I think it’s a sin. DLH
