YOUR BELOVED EDITORS’ LOOK AT THE ’18 MID-TERMS; IS IT ALL OVER FOR THE GOP?
By now most everybody with a laptop and a website has graced the internet with their predictions regarding the 2018 mid-term elections. Most are expecting, if not promoting a massive rejection of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, and most of all, conservatism.
As the left would have it, voters will go to the polls and send every Doug Jones, Elizabeth Warren look-a-like they can find to Washington with the ideal objective of starting the ‘impeachment of Trump’ ball rolling!
In his pjmedia column on New Year’s Day, Michael Walsh gives readers a different take, providing at least faint hope that the left has it wrong, wildly wrong, he opines.
According to the left, Walsh says:
– “…all signs point toward big Democratic gains…(in 2018)… , largely driven by President Trump’s widespread unpopularity.”
– Citing one Democrat ‘strategist’, Walsh quotes: “The sense of chaos, the constant fight, fight, fight and alarm bells going off all the time” has deeply troubled voters, many who backed Trump…. “There’s this sense of being on edge,” which Alabamians talked about frequently… “That’s what they don’t want anymore.”
– And, “If a year of Trump has put voters in the mood for less confrontation, that poses a big challenge for Republicans. “I don’t know how you stop Donald Trump from putting people on edge,” according to the ‘strategist’:. “That’s what he does.”
– Walsh concludes with: “Seems to me that’s exactly what America voted for in electing him in the first place.”

We generally agree with Walsh’s point. However, we believe there’s more to it. Yes, Donald Trump is confrontational. Yes, American people who are paying attention ARE on edge. Yes, there seems to be chaos all around! Yes, the American people voted for Trump expecting it because they knew how much damage to this country Obama had done and how much more Hillary would do.
They knew it would take “confrontation” and “alarm bells” needed to be “going off”.
North Korea and that honest-to-goodness dangerous, fat, little nut job (of course, we’d never refer to him that way) , “Rocket Man”; Iran, world’s leading sponsor of terror and soon-to-be full-fledged nuclear power; Robert (a cross between “Inspectors’ Javert and Clouseau) Mueller’s never-ending pursuit of the man who bought the bread from the man (Putin) who stole the bread from sainted Madame Hillary; the corrupt United Nations, front for every despotic state around the world; the numerous and well-documented “bad deals” negotiated by the provably criminal and treacherous Obama regime, designed to diminish the United States as a factor in world affairs…and on and on.
Yep, there’s “chaos” all around! And thoughtful Americans are both aware of it and correctly identify the sources of it.
And it’s not Donald Trump!
On North Korea. One “foreign affairs expert” guest on CNN Monday, solemnly advised that, while North Korea poses some threat to the world and the US specifically, he sees it not as an immediate threat (wow! Never heard that before). He further wisely noted (and suggested that President Trump obviously doesn’t know) that “nations can get into wars easily…but cannot get out of them easily”. He believes “diplomacy is thus, the only way to go to solve the North Korea unpleasantness.
Pretty profound for a CNN guest, huh?
We believe, however, that the average American understands the North Korean situation much better than “experts” like this, George Will-like pundits, and leftist Democrat politicians do:
– “Diplomacy”, juicy enticements, “jimmiecarter agreements”, “sanctions”, “condemnations, lots and lots of “carrots” and only wink-wink “sticks”, and always “diplomacy”… US presidential administrations of both parties for decades.
“Nations can get into wars easily, but cannot get out of them easily”. Not “easily” but every solid American understands, you don’t get out of wars, with anything but bad outcomes by capitulating, but by the only way that’s ever worked…you win them! Something Barack Obama tried to insure we never would.
