Actually, Felipe did NOT “die in the custody of…”, but he died while being returned by the CBS to the hospital where he had earlier been taken when Border security personnel noted he was showing symptoms; there Felipe had been treated and released.
But, let’s not quibble. The fact of the matter is, young Felipe was ‘chosen’ by his father, “Alonzo-Gomez”, to make the long, arduous, dangerous journey from Guatemala to illegally enter the US, where Alonzo-Gomez went to “find a better life for his family”, or some such goal.
And, we suggest that Alonzo-Gomez knew that if he took a small child with him, his odds of beating our immigration laws were so much better because the two of them would have to be quickly released and could then disappear into the migrant population and likely never face a refugee hearing or a possibility of legal deportation.
Young Felipe was thus Alonzo-Gomez’s ticket to the Promised Land…and the risk was all 8 year old Felipe’s!
To one of the many hypocritical politicians, Nancy Pelosi, a reasonable question: Do you have any “moral responsibility” in this? Does “the good daddy”, Alonzo-Gomez, have any moral responsibility in this? Yes, the tragic death of an innocent child…on any day, Christmas Eve, or any other…”breaks the hearts of all”. But, as the “devout Catholic” you like to claim you are, Nancy, look in the mirror and consider your “unconscionable” role in all this.
It wasn’t the Border Security people who put this child at great risk. Like many others, I don’t like it when any group or individual is willing to use a child as a “human shield” to advance a ’cause”. DLH
Pelosi: ‘We All Have Moral Responsibility to Ensure All Children of God Are Treated With Compassion’
(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) issued a statement on Wednesday, reminding Americans: “We all have a moral responsibility to ensure all children of God are treated with compassion.”
Pelosi was responding to the death of 8-year-old Felipe Alzono-Gomez, who died on Christmas Eve in the custody of U.S Customs and Border Protection. Alzono-Gomez and his father, who were from Guatemala, had been intercepted by the Border Patrol along the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso, Texas.
“Democrats call on Homeland Security’s Inspector General to immediately open an investigation into Felipe Alzono-Gomez’s death,” Pelosi said.
“The tragic death of an innocent child on Christmas Day breaks the hearts of all.
“We all have a moral responsibility to ensure all children of God are treated with compassion and decency. The death now of two children in U.S. custody is unconscionable.As amply pointed out by many who commented on the CNS report:
