Barr’s speech should be nailed to the ND law school walls

Updated U. of Notre Dame motto

  • It’s not like the students there would see similar scholarship coming from their Notre Dame professors
  • Tag-ons to the video of Barr’s speech says something about what is behind the abortion, China, and transgenderism mania

Attorney General Bill Barr spoke at the Notre Dame Law School Friday October 11. Barr, a practicing Catholic spoke to the Roman Catholic affiliated school on the foundational importance of morality and religion to sustain our Constitution, our way of life (the only alternative to a command and control society). We at V’PAC — imperfect sinners that we are, sometimes profane, sacrilegious by some standards —  hope we have nonetheless conveyed over time our appreciation of the necessity of maintaining the Judeo-Christian culture, its institutions and their traditional application.

That an AG would get an invitation to speak at any law school is not remarkable. That AG Barr would go to Notre Dame to delivery the particular remarks he gave is not talking to the choir (would that it was so) nor even a merely discordant one (perhaps why he agreed to go).  Notre Dame is in many ways a Fifth Column. Emanations from its abundantly liberal faculty undermine Judeo-Christian precepts (in our humble opinion of course). We believe it would be no more difficult to get defenders of traditional values at a secular university.

At Notre Dame the liberal political correctness started with President (Father) Hesburgh and is now well-established in its President (Father) Jenkins. Like theirs so many officially Catholic colleges and universities administrations have also gone out of their way to hire leftist dissidents to teach in what may have been a pathetic show of diversity but has now become a resume and tenure requirement and transmogrified those institutions. Champions of  “The Faith”, even faith, are the exception.

Barr describes a number of the assaults on religious and faith based institutions (which the Trump administration and his office are fighting). He described what we are up against – “First is the force, fervor and comprehensiveness of the assault on organized religion we are experiencing today,” said Barr. “This is not decay. This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry and academia, in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values.” . . .

“The problem is not that religion is being forced on others,” Barr said. “The problem is that irreligion is being forced; secular values are being forced on people of faith.” As paraphrased by Terrence Jeffrey in his Townhall article that inspired our comments today: “The threat is not that the government will establish a state religion; the threat is that the state will attack people for conscientiously practicing their own.”

We would not term Barr a great orator in terms of delivery, but he is a craftsman in terms of content. On that it is a powerful speech. Nevertheless his speech (in fairness perhaps intended more as guest lecture and the certain dryness that might entail) is entirely watchable at 40 minutes in length.  At this writing we have not found a transcript, however the links below employ many quotes in their analysis of his speech.  Below the links is a video of his remarks.

Note that the video was posted by INFOWARS who issued perhaps the earliest and one of the few postings in our search. The organization has a no-holds-barred reputation to say the least. It is not on our roster of links. The editor is Alex Jones, whose delivery we were not familiar with, and seems to approach Sam Kinison in its graveliness.

Tagged onto Barr’s speech are INFOWARS’ clips dealing with several topics that run only three or four minutes each. We found their accuracy to be unassailable with the audio annotations pointed even if clumsy. That we are dealing with maniacal forces assaulting the culture is evident.
