Elijah Cummings R.I.P. leaves chariots he had been riding behind, in flames

In our view, and based on impressions gained from his appearances on television and on reports, assumed to be accurate, on the actions and apparent outcomes of those actions he took as a congressman, we have long considered Elijah Cummings one of the nastiest and most negative partisans in Congress.

His passing has not changed our view but we must concede that Mr. Cummings may have believed deeply that his actions were virtuous and taken with only the best intentions.

For one can never say what is in a person’s heart nor what circumstances may have influenced one’s actions or affected their outcomes.

Thus we sincerely wish for Congressman Cummings… may he Rest in Peace. dlh

Cummings, powerful congressman leading Trump probe, has died

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, a sharecropper’s son who rose to become a civil rights champion and the chairman of one of the U.S. House committees leading an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, died Thursday of complications from longstanding health problems. He was 68.
Cummings was a formidable orator who advocated for the poor in his black-majority district , which encompasses a large portion of Baltimore and more well-to-do suburbs.

As chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Cummings led investigations of the president’s government dealings, including probes in 2019 relating to Trump’s family members serving in the White House.

However justice must proceed

While the Biblical Elijah ascended to heaven in a flaming chariot Congressman Elijah Cummings left a parking lot full of flamers behind. Besides his many accusations towards President Trump that he hoped would get Trump impeached now a dumpster fire, his wife Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, chair of the Maryland Democratic Party, faces allegations of self-dealing involving “management fees” and the propriety of donations to her charity CGPS while hubby was on the House Oversight Committee.  That began heating up this past summer.

According to this Fox article:

(Rockeymoore-Cummings) charity received over $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016. The report claims the nonprofit’s financial backers included Google, J.P. Morgan and Prudential – all of which had business interests before the House Oversight Committee, chaired by Cummings – and could pose a conflict of interest.

Aren’t ethics ethics Mr Chairman?   But do lecture us about the Emoluments Clause from your perch in Heaven.
