BOLTON IS NO OMAROSA

“New evidence and witnesses could emerge, chief among them John Bolton, the former national security adviser Trump fired. Bolton is writing a book on his time in the White House and dropping hints he’s eager to air dirty laundry.”

That’s an excerpt from Micheael Goodwin’s column this week. Goodwin is writing with respect to President Trump’s statements that he wants and looks forward to a Senate impeachment trial.

Goodwin cites a lot of reasons that a trial in the Senate would be a very good thing for the president.

But this reference to John Bolton was a part of the possible downside of a trial, even though, as Goodwin notes, downsides are far outweighed by the upsides.

Because we are occasionally accused of looking for the negative on most things (the “Pessimist Personified”), we feel compelled to give our opinion on the “Bolton business”.

It’s become common assumption inside the beltway, among the ‘Schiffless’, and in most media accounts that John Bolton has become, if not his worst at least, an enemy of President Trump, apparently resentful of his treatment by the president.

Maybe so. But we are skeptical that’s the case and would be very disappointed in Mr. Bolton if he is.

Bolton, his performance as an ambassador (unconfirmed) to the United Nations and also, because of his generally strong conservative views and behaviors, he has been a favorite of ours.

Whether or not John has an issue over his departure (whether by resignation or firing) from the White House, we believe he is not only a staunch conservative but a mature adult as well.

We don’t believe John Bolton is a traitor to the person who has championed and achieved many (if not all) of the ideas and initiatives, he himself has stood for and fought for his entire professional career. He has no doubt had disagreements with some of Mr. Trump’s words and actions (haven’t we all?), but in the end, we believe John Bolton is faithful to his ideals and that the president has supported many of them during his term.

If Bolton were to turn out to be “an insider” hoping to cash in on his time in a key role in the White House, our surprise disappointment ,and disgust would be boundless.

We don’t see John Bolton as an, ugh, Omarosa Manigault Newman!       dlh
