Mask hysteria

Now this cartoon* packs a lot of truth about inveterate mask wearers. We do not think it pertains to the many who do so out of a job requirement or who are not in the mood at any given time to show a little defiance when walking into a store or other establishment with a mask mandate posted.  However, in our experience, in 90%  or more of such places we have walked into, while the clerks may have masks on, customers without masks are ignored.  That is a good thing.

In the depictions below one might substitute many a Democrat (when they do not exercise liberal privilege as Nancy Pelosi and others do). There are some Republicans in the willing mask wearing mix as well  . . . civic duty types (their perception) and others unfortunately of a mindset somewhat related to the descriptions imparted. (more commentary below).

We have observed many a ridiculous mask wearer — bicyclists and walkers outdoors;   people alone in cars, more ill-fitting masks than not.  Our hearing may not be as sharp as it once was but we think it in the average range for our age group and the muffled wa-wa-wa-wa-wa listening to mask wearers makes us want to rip the damn things off of the clerks obliged to wear them.  We think them appropriate in limited circumstances and not generally (and from what we have read they are only marginally useful in those circumstances).  Constant wearing by the asymptomatic we believe to be at least as risky for the individual wearing them (medical and social) as any viral health risk the masks  might ameliorate.

Not only do we oppose any general mandate we do not think the governmental “recommendations” (short of mandates) are sound as health policy. Non healthcare provider businesses and non food preparation businesses that require them of all employees and patrons if they do so out of fear of liability ought to have that fear removed but should not be immune from employee action for unfair labor practices if they continue to mandate mask wearing generally because the science behind the mandates does not hold up. Freedom loving and health conscious customers ought to consider their patronage alternatives and avoid mask mandate businesses and voice their objections to the management.
