“A response to a rejoinder to an assertion”
Our DLH responds to your servent’s hopes entrenched in the 2022 mid-term election

I’m open to someone proposing a scenario describing how this all works out and doesn’t lead to big Democrat losses in 2022. Really, what is the big turnaround moment that is possible here? I just don’t see it.”

Roger’s “hope springs eternal”-optimism is heartening, and perhaps, charming. And Bonchie’s quote above is so comforting.
“American voters, in 2022, are sure to turn out in droves to ‘throw the bum Democrats out!”, they suggest.
While I share the hope, I am less confident in its coming to reality..
Just a couple of observations that contribute to my ‘characteristic pessimism’…at the risk of repeating myself:
First of all, “Bonchie” didn’t have the good fortune to read my original post on this topic in which I outlined some of my reasons that all those “big Democrat losses in 2022 probably will not come to pass.
The ‘optimists’ in our midst always swell with pride when they proclaim that the American people have always risen to the occasion…whether it was to oppose fascism and Naziism in Europe in the last century, or attempts to introduce communism into the American political system in the 50’s…”Americans always respond to preserve our nation’s values and freedoms!!”
Well, news flash! The current crop of American “idealists” are not of the same ilk as those of old. Our schools and our teachers, for at least two generations have been taught and conned into indoctrinating their young charges to NOT respect our nation’s ideals and values and history, and how America overcame the slavery, racism, suppression of thought and ideas, and how it became a beacon of liberty and freedom and a magnet for peoples all over the world to look to the USA as the model for government by and for its people.
They are now being taught that this country has never been one ’to die for’…that socialism, even communism is a far better system than the ‘capitalism’ us old yokels have always naively honored.
Our military, our justice system, our governing ideals was our pride and the world’s envy.
When you look around at today’s America, is that what you see?
If your neighbor doesn’t watch Fox News, how much does he or she even know about “all those disasters” which have befallen, and were caused by ‘Biden and his cohorts’”, to which Bonchie refers?
This is not a”commercial” for Fox News Network, but have you watched the “mainstream channels”, the Cable News, your local TV news? Have you read the AP releases dutifully reprinted by your local “news”-paper? (Who is Hunter Biden?)
Have you caught the ‘late night comedy’ shows (Fallon, Colbert, etc), with the exception of Gutfeld (coincidentally, on Fox) ?
Just how much, and, more importantly, how accurately do you think your ‘neighbor’ knows about the huge crisis at our southern border? About the serious threat to our national security that the diseases, the criminality, the terrorist intent being brought by some of those among the thousands and thousands of migrants illegally pouring in to America?
Have you noticed who American voters have installed as mayors of many of our nation’s largest cities (Bottoms, Lightfoot, Bowser, et al)? But before you jump to call “racism”, or “sexism”, because they seem to share similar physical characteristics, note that they by no means reflect the wisdom, accomplishment, and love for America of Candice Owens, Ben Carson, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, M. L. King, and many others who share the skin color, but not the values of the Congressional Black Caucus or the mayors of many of our largest cities. (There’s also a lot of DiBlasios as well.)
Roger has provided a column which warms our hearts and relaxes our fears.
I recommend a column a bit less sanguine but I believe more relevant to the cultural and social environment I have concerns about: By Victor Davis Hanson: An American apocalypse – why people of all classes, races are filled with fear
Ah but Roger suggests that I, and perhaps Dr. Hanson just don’t have enough confidence in that “American Spirit” that will ultimately inspire the American people to march to the polls in huge numbers to vote the ‘demon’ Democrats out of office.
Oh, how much I long to share his generally rosy outlook!
But then, back when I was an “optimist”, I was not alone in my belief in 2020 that those same Americans would ‘laugh out loud’ and cast a ballot for the most effective president in recent American history, Donald J. Trump …and against the arguably very worst presidential candidate in all of recorded history. ..a person who, even when he had all his faculties was a grim political joke.
It was said, not in jest, that the “Scranton Scrapper” was chosen as Vice President because the prospect of him ascending to the presidency was the best insurance against the America-hating Barack Obama being impeached for his efforts to destroy our country with his radical “transformational” ideas and policies.
And, yet those Americans we’re looking to restore our country’s greatness and produce those “big losses” for Democrats next year, sent a feeble, lifetime political fake to the Oval Office…because the media portrayed Joe Biden as a “decent, God-fearing” man.
If today’s ‘Americans’ can elect, legally or not, as president a proven fraud who, on the few occasions he actually campaigned in public, insulted even Democrat voters (“you’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier”) and lied openly about his “brilliance’ (“first in his law school class”), and his governmental ‘accomplishments’(a former Secretary of Defense in a Democrat administration noted that ‘Joe Biden was wrong on about every foreign policy matter throughout his near 50 year career in government’), how can we have confidence that today’s American voters will impose those “big Democrat (electoral) losses in 2022” that Bonchie predicts and Roger hopes for?
I will be happy to be proclaimed 2022’s “Biggest Pessimist who got it wrong!” if it does indeed mean a return to the ideals, values, and contributions this great nation has made to our world’s freedoms.
But, it’s going take a lot of work by a lot of good people, like our readers. We appreciate comments regarding assertions by V’pac editors, God bless America.
