From Dan Lee in Sunday’s Dispatch regarding last week’s Obamacare decision: “It is worth underscoring that Roberts is in no way saying that whatever Congress wishes to do is just fine.”
“In rejecting the commerce clause rationale, he (Roberts) was in effect saying
that there are limits as to what Congress can do under the authority of this
clause.”
Dan, think about what you just wrote: Roberts “underscored” his belief that
Congress can’t do whatever it wishes to do. So, he rejected use of the Commerce
clause for that purpose! But, Professor, Roberts than said, “Use the taxing
authority to avoid limits on what you want to do.”
And this guy is actually teaching??!!?
And about this column from Rock Island County Democrat Party Chairman Doug House appearing in the same pages: The only observation to make about this “unreported” contribution to the Democratic Party by the Dispatch is, look up the word
“calumny” in the dictionary. You should find House’s comments as an example.
