Immigration Migraine Continues — Mixed Signals and Wrong Signals

Via Breitbart:

The immigration bill introduced to the Senate a week and a half ago would, if passed, allow illegal immigrants to access state and local welfare benefits immediately, Breitbart News has learned. The financial impact of allowing potentially millions of immigrants onto state and local public assistance could overwhelm these programs’ budgets.
Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) uncovered this loophole in the bill and many others, and he will circulate a memo detailing the gaps in the bill on Tuesday. Breitbart News exclusively obtained a copy of the memo before its public release.

“The Gang of Eight made a promise that illegal immigrants will not be able to access public benefits,” Sessions said in a statement to Breitbart News. “We already know that, once granted green cards and ultimately citizenship, illegal immigrants will be able to access all public benefit programs at a great cost to taxpayers. We have, however, identified a number of loopholes that would allow illegal immigrants to draw public benefits even sooner than advertised.”

Has Marco read his bill? And what’s with Paul Ryan? As Gerald Seib in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal: “Mr. Ryan is speaking out for an immigration overhaul, loudly and clearly, and couches his argument in economic rather than social or political terms.

“We believe in pro-growth economics. We believe in entrepreneuralism. Well, that’s immigration,”, he says.

As Seib interprets Ryan’s comments, he believes Ryan will be a key player in selling the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill to GOP members in the House. And Ryan is supposed to be our party’s economics genius?!? Talk to Sessions, Paul.

Looks like all the GOP’s 2016 hopefuls so far are buying in to the Establishment’s theory of success through capitulation.  Good luck with that.     DLH

And in response to this Politico item:

Rubio said today the chances of his Amnesty bill are no bueno in passing the House.  His gang of 8 still has to iron some thing out in the Senate before it can pass the House.

A funny note in this same Politco article quoted McCain saying this to a college audience:

“We will not be able to compete for the Hispanic voter until this is done,” McCain said at an immigration forum hosted by the University of Southern California.

Was McCain saying these absurd things when he and Bush were trying to push this in 2006 and the Democrats blocked it?  Why would he say this right now?

Lets take a fishing analogy for example.  Say I am fishing on the river and there are a couple guys around me.  In McCain’s world if the number of people fishing around me doubled I would have a better chance!  McCain is a raving madman that makes no sense.  10-20 million new Democrat voters will make us UNable to compete for the Hispanic vote ever!

Seriously am I missing something here?     WM

Heh no kidding. I am supporting the candidate who is the furthest thing from that. And the early horse in the lead here is Rand Paul. I went down with the McLame and Romney ships. I’m sure most of the people echo my sentiment. We won’t get fooled again.

“We believe in pro-growth economics. We believe in entrepreneuralism. Well, that’s immigration,”, said Ryan.

Yeah I am not really sure what Ryan is trying to say here. His whole place in this debate is just bizarre IMO. And hearing the news about how he his big buddies in the House with that La Raza loving nutcase Rep Gutierrez (D-Il) just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Paul Ryan is usually a solid dude which is why this makes it all the more depressing.
