Liberals Bustos, Loebsack and Braley did not heed QC Times memo . . . Join Republicans in effort to pass individual funding bills . . . Each worried about their 2014 election . . . Obliterate QCT/Democrat narrative . . .
Our area liberal Democrat Congressional Representatives, Cheri Bustos, David Loebsack, and Bruce Braley all were given a push from their handlers and a pass from the Democrat caucus to do what the Republicans have advocated from the beginning of the most recent Obamacare continuing resolution battle . . . fund government programs individually.
Certainly Republican conservatives want to defund Obamacare but the imputation from the likes of the QC Times that Republicans were ever insistent on stopping important government commitments was and is pure calumny. Bustos, Loebsack and Braley out of concerns for their own political careers have proved the QC Times editorial three days ago to be pure crappola. They voted for individual spending bills that Republicans proposed. The narrative that Republicans were set on shutting down all government is a lie and the QC Times “GOP Drags America over the Edge” is guilty of willfully perpetuating it.
This must be sending reverberations throughout the halls of the QC Times. We can imagine the consternation therein. “Don’t these people listen to us . . . don’t they realize what we can do to them and for them . . . how dare they embarrass us . . . expose our editorial for what it was, a hack job . . . and by the way . . . how come we were not clued in!
From the Ed Tibbitt’s report in the QC Times yesterday came this explanation from Bustos’ spokesman Collin Madigan, all while insisting on Bustos support for a “clean CR:”
“However, the congresswoman is determined to do what she can to work toward ending this shutdown and has considered the bills brought to the floor in recent days on their individual merits and voted as she felt was in the best interest of her district each time,”
And her career we might add.
In line with the QC Times masthead editorial disease of calumny toward conservative Republicans, they publish the fatuous political meanderings of Dana Milbank. His most recent “insight” is that any compromise by Democrats would invite chaos in the political fabric. Yes, you have that right, Democrats must remain steadfast in order to protect the nation from Republican tactics.
You see according to Milbank’s drivel allowing any Republican success at doing what Democrats do, playing hardball, will allow a minority group of Republicans to bamboozle the full caucus to do the right thing. The majority Republicans really want to do the Democrat “right thing” and those nasty conservatives must not be allowed to embarrass them out of cooperating.
Of course Milbank threatens warns Republicans that if any Democrats cave somehow just then the cat will be out of the bag and Democrats will now have this nefarious tactic to get all manner of objectionable things passed that conservatives oppose. See how stupid we are. Democrats are out to save Republicans from themselves. What bunk.
Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts from their safe seats, the Democrat Congressional Black caucus from their safe seats, have always used their influence, held up votes, made demands of their “leadership” and caucus members to do what they wanted and steamroll Republicans using their caucus strength and discipline.
The only difference is that the Democrat process of putting their collective foot down, emanates from their official leadership. Republicans rarely experience it and are now seeing the effectiveness of shadow leadership, because the current elected Republican leaders are otherwise prone to avoid the good fight.
So conservative Republican strategies in consort with constituent desires and pressure have been proven in this area to be effective as regards Democrat incumbents facing uncertain races. And where was Scott County Republican leadership in this great cause. More on that in our next post. R Mall
